Many of the primary recruiting services have updated their 2022 rankings of late, and we’re taking a look at where the two Syracuse basketball four-star commits in this cycle are placed at their respective positions.

To date, the Orange has verbal commitments from point guard Quadir Copeland, who chose the ‘Cuse in August, and wing Justin Taylor, who picked Syracuse basketball in June.

The main recruiting Web sites list the 6-foot-6 Taylor as a small forward, although Orange coaches have recruited him more as a shooting guard and likely heir apparent to ‘Cuse senior Buddy Boeheim.

As of the time of this writing, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite had Taylor as the No. 20 small forward across the country.

Rivals.com is the most bullish on Taylor, putting him as the No. 18 small forward, followed by 247Sports at No. 23 and ESPN at No. 28. The majority of recruiting services deem him a top-100 overall prospect in this class.

For his senior year, Taylor is suiting up on the post-grad team at the powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He transferred there from the St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Va.

Let’s see where Syracuse basketball four-star commit Quadir Copeland is nationally ranked.

Taylor and Copeland are friends off of the court, and the 6-foot-6 Copeland is also competing for the IMG Academy’s post-grad squad during his senior season. He most recently played at the Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J.

Orange coaches are recruiting Copeland as a point guard, however, some recruiting Web sites categorize him as a combo guard. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite rates Copeland as the No. 22 combo guard nationwide.

Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 18 point guard, followed by the No. 20 point guard at ESPN and the No. 30 combo guard at 247Sports. Overall in the 2022 cycle, Copeland checks in as a top-100 to a top-150 player.

I’ll just add here that recruiting ratings are good for context, but these rankings are also somewhat subjective. Yes, all of us Syracuse basketball fans out there want to land five-star prospects who are No. 1 at their respective positions.

But Copeland and Taylor are absolutely solid pick-ups for the ‘Cuse. They’re each four-star players and in the top-100 nationally. Some recruiting services have them in the top-20 at their position. That’s pretty darn good, if you ask me.
