Five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher is one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle, with a range of high-major programs targeting him, including Syracuse basketball.

The 6-foot-4 Wilcher recently participated in the Orange’s annual Elite Camp, and ‘Cuse coaches offered him a scholarship back in mid-July.

Since earlier in the summer, college coaches have been able to contact 2023 players directly. There have also been live periods at AAU competitions where college coaches could watch high-school prospects in person.

What’s more, college coaches during various recruiting and evaluation periods permitted by the NCAA are able to visit with 2023 players at their respective high schools or prep schools. And elite prospects such as Wilcher are also busy planning visits to college campuses.

Let’s look at where Syracuse basketball five-star target Simeon Wilcher is planning to visit.

Wilcher, a consensus top-15 player across the country in his cycle, recently had head coaches from North Carolina, Connecticut and Nebraska visit him, according to a tweet from college basketball insider Adam Zagoria.

Additionally, per Zagoria, Wilcher is aiming to make visits in the future to the Orange, Oregon and Maryland. That’s absolutely terrific news about Wilcher potentially traveling to Central New York, although competition for him is really intense.

Since Syracuse basketball offered him, other teams to have followed suit with new offers for Wilcher include North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas Tech and DePaul.

According to recruiting services, media reports and Wilcher’s own Twitter page, he holds more than 20 offers. Other stellar squads that have either offered him, or are showing interest, are Memphis, Ohio State, Iowa, Kansas, Auburn, Illinois, Duke, Kentucky, Miami and UCLA.

I’d expect all of the blue-blood groups and recruiting heavyweights to get involved with Wilcher as his recruitment continues to expand. He is heading into his junior season at Roselle Catholic High School in Roselle, N.J., and Wilcher runs on the AAU circuit with the New York City-based NY Renaissance.

As we noted in a recent column, Wilcher currently has high interest in the ‘Cuse, according to an interview he conducted with Mike McAllister, the publisher of SyracuseOnSI.

Syracuse basketball coaches are pursuing a range of four-star and five-star prospects in the 2023 class, and this cycle could end up as pretty darn fantastic for the Orange if it lands commitments from a few of these players.

From what I’ve read about Wilcher, he is one of the top priorities for the ‘Cuse in this cycle, if not the top overall target for the Orange coaching staff.

Recruiting services, by the way, deem Wilcher as a top-two prospect at his position in the 2023 class, whether that is at point guard or combo guard.
