Syracuse basketball 2023 target Matas Buzelis is the latest prospect to have received a scholarship offer from the Orange coaching staff, and then have his national rankings skyrocket.

I’m in no way saying these two developments are related, but credit the ‘Cuse coaches for identifying talented high-school prospects early on in their recruiting processes. This has occurred more than once of late, for 2023 players and prospects in other recruiting cycles as well.

In the case of the 6-foot-10 Buzelis, who can suit up at both guard positions and on the wing, he has jumped into the top-10 overall across the country within his class, according to one of the primary recruiting services.

As we’ve detailed in several recent columns on Buzelis, he also continues to see his list of high-major scholarship offers grow. Some national analysts and recruiting insiders say that Buzelis is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the entire 2023 class.

Let’s see where Syracuse basketball prospect Matas Buzelis is ranked.

Rivals.com recently updated its national ratings for 2023, and Buzelis checked in as four stars and No. 27 overall. He made a sizable rankings leap in the recent Rivals.com 2023 refresh.

Buzelis made an even greater national gain when ESPN recently updated its player rankings for this cycle. According to ESPN, Buzelis is five stars, No. 10 around the country and No. 4 at power forward.

I’ve said for a while now that I believe Buzelis is a five-star, top-20 prospect in the 2023 class, and ESPN likely won’t be the only recruiting service to align with my opinion on this Orange target.

A native of the Chicago metropolitan area, Buzelis is set to suit up in his junior year for the powerhouse Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H.

Syracuse basketball coaches offered Buzelis last November. His offer sheet is mighty impressive, with offers from squads such as North Carolina, Kansas, Florida State, Illinois, Florida, Purdue, Oklahoma, Arizona, UCLA, Maryland, Connecticut, DePaul, Providence, Wake Forest, Nebraska and Western Illinois, per recruiting services.

In a recent article by 247Sports national basketball director Eric Bossi, we learned that Buzelis has taken unofficial visits to Connecticut, DePaul, Kansas and Purdue.

Buzelis also recently took an official visit to Wake Forest, and he will do the same when traveling to Florida State at the end of September. I’d love to see him map out a trip to the Hill as well.
