A recent article noted that Syracuse basketball was among the teams recruiting 2023 four-star prospect Gavin Griffiths the hardest.

As I’ve noted on numerous occasions of late, the Orange coaching staff is doing a remarkable job of getting in early on with high-school prospects who eventually blow up on a national scale.

This appears to be the case with Griffiths, a talented 6-foot-7 wing who is getting ready for his junior season at the Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn.

Griffiths, by the way, runs on the grassroots basketball circuit with the Boston-based Expressions Elite Basketball, and he had a tremendous summer performing in various AAU competitions, according to multiple national analysts and recruiting insiders.

In his recruitment, Syracuse basketball was the first high-major program to offer a scholarship to Griffiths, with that offer arriving last October.

Since then, his list of scholarship offers continues to expand. And Griffiths went from being unranked in the 2023 class, to entering the top 75, to now placing within the top 35. Pretty exciting stuff for him.

Syracuse basketball is seeing competition soar for four-star Gavin Griffiths.

As we detailed in a column not too long ago, former Big East Conference foe Connecticut recently offered Griffiths. Another Big East squad, Xavier, as well as Kansas State out of the Big 12 Conference have also pledged offers to Griffiths, per his Twitter page. So, too, has Providence from the Big East.

According to his Twitter account and recruiting Web sites, other offers that have arrived for Griffiths include from Iowa, Maryland, Dayton, Rutgers, Bryant, Fairfield, Hofstra, UMass and Siena.

In late July, a piece by Ryan McMullen on ZAGSBLOG.com said at that time the five groups recruiting Griffiths the hardest were Syracuse basketball, Dayton, Iowa, Maryland and Connecticut. Of course, that could have already changed, or it could shift down the road.

ESPN recently updated its national rankings for the 2023 cycle, and Griffiths checked in at No. 53, as well as the No. 1 high-school prospect in Connecticut.

Rivals.com, too, has refreshed its 2023 ratings. Previously, Griffiths was No. 71, but he has skyrocketed into the top 40, at No. 35 overall. That represented one of the biggest jumps within the entire class.

We’ll continue to monitor Griffiths’ recruiting process, including whether he decides to take a visit to the Hill at some point.
