Syracuse basketball has pursued 2022 four-star guard Chance Westry for a long time, and he’s certainly an Orange fan favorite in this cycle.

The 6-foot-5 Westry recently disclosed a top-10 list of contenders on Instagram, and the ‘Cuse did make the cut, along with Mike Hopkins-led Washington, Maryland, Auburn, LSU, Connecticut, Southern California, Arizona State, Nebraska and DePaul.

Westry, a consensus top-40 player across the country in the 2022 class, will spend his senior year at Hillcrest Prep in Gilbert, Ariz., after electing to transfer there from the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif.

While it’s always good to see the Orange make a top-flight prospect’s list of finalists, the rumblings on social media and in chat rooms for a few months now seem to suggest that the ‘Cuse isn’t likely to land Westry.

Of course, this is speculation, and the recruiting world can prove a fickle and rapidly changing business. Until Syracuse basketball is officially eliminated, there does remain the possibility that Westry could choose the Orange.

Syracuse basketball is in the top 10 for 2022 four-star guard Chance Westry.

A native of Harrisburg, Pa., and a member of the New York City-based NY Renaissance on the AAU circuit, Westry holds a ton of high-major scholarship offers. His group of 10 finalists is an interesting one.

As far as chatter from national analysts and recruiting insiders throughout Westry’s recruitment, Maryland did seem to have some buzz for him at one point.

Earlier this summer, Westry took official visits to the Hill, Auburn, LSU and Nebraska. More recently, Auburn and LSU have appeared to be in solid shape with Westry.

To that end, multiple projections have come for Westry in the direction of the Southeastern Conference’s LSU on the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com in recent weeks. We’ll of course continue to monitor this.

Not too long ago, Syracuse basketball did pick up a verbal commitment from 2022 four-star point guard Quadir Copeland. From what I can tell, though, Westry and fellow 2022 four-star prospect J.J. Starling are being recruited by ‘Cuse coaches as combo guards.

Some Orange fans have opined that the commitment by Copeland will knock Syracuse basketball out of contention for either Westry or Starling. While I’m not a recruiting insider, I don’t believe this to be the case.
