Syracuse Basketball: Newly offered 2022 big man is about to blow up
By Neil Adler
With 2022 four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski and 2022 four-star center Donovan Clingan no longer options for Syracuse basketball, the Orange has set its sights on other big men in this class, including the recently offered Peter Carey.
The 7-foot Carey, who can play power forward and center, is a junior at the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, Mass. While the ‘Cuse could have an excellent shot at Carey, the team isn’t putting all its proverbial eggs into one basket.
A new scholarship offer has gone out to Dominick Barlow, a 6-foot-9 power forward in the 2022 class. Barlow revealed the Orange offer via his Twitter page.
Barlow, according to media reports and recruiting Web sites, is a junior at Dumont High School in Dumont, N.J. He runs on the AAU circuit with the New York City-based NY Renaissance, a group whose roster features a bunch of elite players who hold ‘Cuse offers.
Not too long ago, Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League took place, culminating with the 2021 Peach Jam tournament in North Augusta, S.C.
According to multiple national analysts and other recruiting insiders, Barlow was a break-out performer at the 2021 Peach Jam, and his recruitment is getting ready to skyrocket.
Let’s take a look at new Syracuse basketball target Dominick Barlow.
From what I’ve read about Barlow, although he’s not nationally ranked by the majority of main recruiting services for now, that is absolutely going to change.
For what it’s worth, 247Sports does rate Barlow as a three-star prospect, the No. 34 power forward and the No. 9 player in New Jersey within the 2022 cycle.
However, as I’ve opined many times, rankings are great, but they aren’t everything. Case in point, Barlow’s list of offers is already impressive and will continue to expand.
His offers include from high-major squads such as Kansas, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Southern California, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Providence, Nebraska, DePaul, Xavier, Iona, Florida and South Carolina.
The way that Barlow has performed of late, and based on analysts’ comments regarding his recruitment, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he emerges as a four-star, top-50 player in his class.
"College basketball writer Rob Dauster recently published a piece where he discussed Barlow’s game, saying in part, “You cannot teach length, you cannot teach athleticism and you cannot teach effort. Barlow has all three in spades.”"
