Syracuse basketball offered a scholarship to under-rated 2022 prospect Yann Farrell, a four-star forward, more than a year ago. And his recruiting process has seemed to fly a bit under the radar, at least in the public sphere.

The 6-foot-7 Farrell, listed as either a power forward or a small forward, is a top-100 player nationally in his class, according to many recruiting services.

He has a bunch of high-major offers, although Farrell doesn’t have any analyst predictions as to a collegiate destination at this juncture. Since the Orange offered him, I haven’t seen a lot of interviews that Farrell has given on his recruitment, nor have I read an abundance of comments from national analysts and other insiders on that topic.

To be honest, I’m not sure whether Syracuse basketball coaches are even significantly involved with Farrell at this point, but I do hope that they are. He’s an excellent prospect.

Farrell is about to enter his senior year at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., which has sent numerous guys to the Hill in recent seasons. On the AAU circuit, Farrell runs with the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals.

Four-star forward Yann Farrell holds a Syracuse basketball offer.

In looking at the main recruiting Web sites, Farrell boasts at least 15 offers from a range of teams, including Connecticut, Miami, Maryland, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Marquette, Rhode Island, Texas A&M, VCU and Vanderbilt. His offer from the ‘Cuse arrived in May of 2020.

Some of the primary recruiting services recently updated their national rankings for the 2022 class, and Farrell checks in at No. 86 overall via Rivals.com and at No. 96 from 247Sports. Additionally, Rivals.com has him as the No. 23 small forward, while 247Sports places Farrell as the No. 14 power forward.

Syracuse basketball already has two verbal commitments from four-star wings in the 2022 cycle, and the Orange likely has room in this class for several more players.

In 2022, the ‘Cuse continues to recruit four-star wing Chris Bunch, four-star point guard Quadir Copeland, four-star guard J.J. Starling and big man Peter Carey, among others.

But the Orange also recently missed out on four-star center Donovan Clingan, who picked Connecticut, and four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski, who has chosen Duke.

So from my perspective, Farrell could make a strong addition to this cycle, assuming that both he and Syracuse basketball remain interested in one another.
