Syracuse Basketball: Blue-bloods likely to be front-runners for 5-star target
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball got into the mix early on for 2023 five-star prospect Elijah Fisher, offering a scholarship to the elite 6-foot-7 wing last summer.
The Orange has done well in recruiting high-level prospects from Canada in recent years. Fisher is a sophomore at the Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, and runs on the AAU circuit with Grassroots Elite Canada, which is also based in Toronto.
In mid-June, college coaches could begin making direct contact with high-school prospects in the 2023 cycle. Fisher, in a recent article by 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, dished on several collegiate teams for which he’s in frequent contact.
Some of the squads that Fisher mentioned are blue-blood groups Kentucky and Kansas, as well as Oklahoma State. Fisher recently picked up an offer from Kentucky, and he’s held a Kansas offer for more than a year.
I haven’t seen anything about an offer from Oklahoma State to Fisher under his bio on various recruiting Web sites, however, he could certainly possess an offer from the Cowboys.
Syracuse basketball faces heated competition for five-star prospect Elijah Fisher.
To date, I haven’t seen any predictions for Fisher from national analysts or other recruiting insiders. That being said, his recruiting process could have a way to go.
Fisher is deemed by the majority of recruiting services that rank Canadian prospects to be a top-five to a top-10 player in the 2023 class. Some analysts have said that Fisher could contend for the No. 1 overall spot in his cycle.
In the past, Fisher has said some positive things about the Syracuse basketball program. However, I’ve noticed in several more recent interviews, the ‘Cuse wasn’t mentioned.
This by no means signifies, at least to me, that the Orange isn’t in contention for Fisher. But it wouldn’t surprise me if he ultimately picks a blue-blood team like Kentucky or Kansas for his collegiate destination.
We penned a recent column that detailed how Fisher recently was participating in a training camp for Canada’s under-19 national team, and that he was looking forward to suiting up against top-flight U.S. players on the Adidas circuit in July.
Besides the teams that we’ve already mentioned, Fisher boasts a bunch of other impressive scholarship offers. They include from Baylor, which won the 2021 NCAA Tournament, Florida State, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Memphis, Seton Hall, West Virginia and Southern California.
