Syracuse Football: Even if not highly ranked, 2022 class is looking solid

Syracuse football has picked up several commitments in its 2022 class of late, and we figured it might prove a relevant time to take a look at where these high-school players are rated on a national scale.
So far, the Orange has verbal commitments from eight prospects, all of whom are three stars. One player is on offense, with the other seven prospects on the defensive side.
As of this week, 247Sports ranked the ‘Cuse 2022 class as No. 63 nationally and No. 12 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Rivals.com, meanwhile, has the Orange 2022 cycle at No. 69 overall.
For a bit of context, Syracuse football had 22 commits in its 2021 class. The 247Sports recruiting service ranked this Orange class at No. 56 nationwide and No. 12 in the ACC, while Rivals.com had this ‘Cuse cycle at No. 51 overall.
About a week ago, Syracuse football landed a verbal pledge from Q’yaeir Price, a 6-foot-2 defensive lineman who attends DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, N.J.
At this juncture, Price is the highest-rated recruit for the Orange in its 2022 class. The 247Sports Composite has him at No. 656 nationally, No. 96 at his position and No. 14 in New Jersey.
Let’s examine the rest of the Syracuse football 2022 class to date.
Mekhi Mason is a 6-foot-1 linebacker from Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami Gardens, Fla. He is also one of the Orange’s highest-rated recruits in this cycle.
The 247Sports Composite has Mason at No. 984 overall, No. 97 at linebacker and No. 138 in Florida.
Another defensive lineman is Belizaire Bassette. He attends the American Heritage School, which has two Florida campuses in Delray Beach and Plantation.
The 6-foot-2 Bassette checks in at No. 995 overall via the 247Sports Composite, as well as No. 138 at defensive lineman and No. 141 in Florida.
Up next is LeQuint Allen, a 6-foot-0 running back out of Millville High School in Millville, N.J. Allen, per the 247Sports Composite, is No. 1,109 nationally, No. 81 at running back and No. 28 in New Jersey.
Cornell Perry is a 6-foot-1 defensive back and wide receiver for Woodhaven High School in Brownstown, Mich. According to media reports, Perry is expected to suit up at defensive back for the ‘Cuse.
His rankings from the 247Sports Composite are based on him being a multi-positional athlete, and he is No. 1,232 overall, the No. 110 athlete and No. 35 in Michigan.
Defensive lineman Malachi Davis goes to Holt Senior High School in Holt, Mich. The 247Sports Composite has the 6-foot-5 Davis at No. 1,253 nationwide, No. 158 at defensive lineman and No. 36 in Michigan.
Another high-school player in the secondary is cornerback Quan Peterson, who attends South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C. He is No. 1,257 across the country, No. 112 at cornerback and No. 21 in South Carolina, according to the 247Sports Composite.
At the end of June, Jeremiah Wilson gave his verbal commitment to Syracuse football. The 5-foot-11 cornerback, out of Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla., is No. 1,288 overall, No. 115 at his position and No. 181 in Florida.
