Syracuse basketball has interest in one of 2022’s best long-range shooters
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball recently landed an elite 2022 shooting guard in four-star Justin Taylor and continues to pursue several four-star point guards in that class, yet the Orange is showing interest in another stellar guard within this cycle.
According to several media reports, the ‘Cuse coaching staff has displayed interest in the talented and under-rated 2022 guard Denver Anglin, whose stock is on the rise, national recruiting analysts say.
The 6-foot-2 Anglin is listed as either a point guard or combo guard, depending on the recruiting Web site. He is a junior at the Gill St. Bernard’s School in Gladstone, N.J., and runs on the AAU circuit with the New York City-based NY Renaissance.
By the way, other members of this AAU group include Syracuse basketball 2022 four-star targets Kyle Filipowski and Chance Westry, as well as former 2022 four-star prospect Roddy Gayle Jr., who has committed to Ohio State.
Syracuse basketball has inquired about excellent 2022 guard Denver Anglin.
For the time being, the three-star Anglin isn’t highly ranked by some of the recruiting services. But make no mistake about it, this young man can flat-out play.
I’ve read a flood of comments from analysts and other recruiting insiders that speak to Anglin’s extreme proficiency in shooting from beyond the arc. He’s a high-energy prospect who also excels on the defensive end.
Other descriptions of Anglin’s game include his strong court vision, his capabilities as a play-maker, and his ability to score at all three levels. Anglin is also a terrific teammate, from what I understand.
An article by Jacob Schwartz on nychoops.rivals.com says that Anglin has heard from the Orange. And Mike McAllister, the publisher of SyracuseOnSI, said in a recent piece that Anglin is on the radar of ‘Cuse coaches.
In terms of scholarship offers, Anglin has about 20 of them, from a bevy of high-major teams such as Miami, Creighton, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Xavier, Northwestern, Connecticut, Providence, Stanford, Georgetown, Seton Hall, TCU, Ole Miss and Penn State.
Per various media reports, other squads showing interest in Anglin include Mike Hopkins-led Washington, Maryland, Marquette, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech and N.C. State.
He has taken official visits to Georgetown, Stanford, Northwestern and Providence, as well as an unofficial visit to UConn, according to his bio on the 247Sports Web site.
The 247Sports Composite ranks Anglin as No. 180 overall in his class, as well as No. 29 at combo guard. He is No. 131 nationally and No. 22 at combo guard, says 247Sports.
Based on what I’ve read about Anglin, he’s likely to emerge as a four-star, top-100 player in the 2022 cycle when all is said and done.
