Syracuse basketball continues to look for a big man for its 2022 class, whether it’s a power forward or a center. The Orange recently missed out on four-star center Donovan Clingan, who selected Connecticut over the ‘Cuse and several other finalists.

Four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski remains in the mix for Syracuse basketball, although competition is intense for him, and fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad Duke is picking up analyst predictions for Filipowski.

We’ve written a couple of columns lately about the Orange reportedly showing interest in other 2022 big men, such as power forward/center Christ Essandoko and center Duke Brennan.

According to at least one media report, we can add another name to this category of potential ‘Cuse prospects, and it’s the talented and under-rated Peter Carey.

The 7-foot power forward/center is a junior at the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, Mass. On the AAU circuit, he runs with the New York Lightning Select, a team that is based in West Hempstead, N.Y.

Syracuse basketball has reached out regarding 2022 big man Peter Carey.

Per a review of various recruiting Web sites, Carey holds scholarship offers from groups such as Rutgers, St. Bonaventure, UMass, Bryant, Brown and Albany.

Because of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Northfield Mount Hermon School didn’t compete this past term, according to an article by Zak Wolf of cityofbasketballlove.com. That obviously made it more challenging for Carey to showcase his skills during his junior year.

However, it seems that Carey is making the most of recent high-school basketball events, and college coaches are once again able to watch prospects play in person. I imagine that Carey’s offer list will only continue to grow.

He is described as a strong defender with a tremendous wingspan, and Carey is a high-energy guy who gets up and down the floor well. Additionally, he continues to enhance his mid-range game and his shooting from the perimeter.

Besides the offers already noted, Wolf says that Carey has drawn interest from teams including Syracuse basketball, Virginia Tech and Penn State.

Should the Orange miss out on Filipowski, an excellent option at power forward or center within the 2022 class could certainly include Carey, Brennan or Essandoko. We’ll keep on monitoring any involvement that the ‘Cuse may have with these big men.
