The annual Peach Jam tournament is underway in North Augusta, S.C., where a ton of elite high-school players are competing over the next two weeks, including several Syracuse basketball commits and prospects.

On the opening day of this prestigious event, one of the marquee match-ups included Orange 2022 four-star commit Justin Taylor, who suits up for the Washington, D.C.-based Team Takeover.

Taylor squared off with the New York City-based NY Renaissance, whose roster includes 2022 four-star targets Chance Westry and Kyle Filipowski.

Just for some context, Taylor, a stellar wing who attends the St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Va., recently committed to the ‘Cuse. Westry, one of the top combo guards in the 2022 cycle, will play for Hillcrest Prep in Gilbert, Ariz., for his senior year.

Filipowski, a stud power forward who is getting a lot of buzz with Duke, is out of the Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass.

Let’s see how Syracuse basketball commit Justin Taylor fared against Orange four-star targets.

According to a box score posted on basketball.exposureevents.com, the NY Renaissance took care of Team Takeover by a final count of 89-64.

Two main facets of this game seemed to center on 3-point shooting and rebounding. The NY Renaissance manhandled Team Takeover on the boards, 37-19.

And from beyond the arc, the NY Renaissance was an efficient 6-of-10, while Team Takeover totally struggled from downtown, only connecting on 3-of-18.

As for individual performances, Taylor tallied 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. He hit on 6-of-13 shots from the field as a whole.

Westry, meanwhile, collected 11 points on a solid 5-of-8 shooting from the field. He also chipped in four rebounds and two assists.

But Filipowski put forth one of the best all-around performances of any player on the Peach Jam’s first day. He had 23 points on a ridiculous 9-of-10 shooting from the field.

Additionally, Filipowski hauled in 11 rebounds, dished out eight assists, blocked two shots and garnered one steal. That’s excellent stuff.

The 2021 Peach Jam, by the way, is taking place from July 13-25. The games are getting played at the Riverview Park Activities Center.

We’ll continue to monitor Filipowski, Westry, Taylor and other high-school players with Orange connections as they compete in the Peach Jam.
