Syracuse basketball 2022 high-priority target Chance Westry is changing prep schools for his senior year, although he will remain on the west coast.

The 6-foot-5 Westry, an elite combo guard, recently said via Twitter that he is transferring to Hillcrest Prep in Gilbert, Ariz. He previously suited up at the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif.

A native of Harrisburg, Pa., the four-star Westry attended Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pa., before competing for the Sierra Canyon School.

According to the MaxPreps Web site, Hillcrest Prep sported a stellar 37-1 record during the 2020-21 campaign. Another player on the Hillcrest Prep roster is 2022 center Duke Brennan.

We recently wrote a column about the 6-foot-10 Brennan, an under-rated, physical big man who has reportedly heard from the Orange coaching staff.

Syracuse basketball target Chance Westry will be in Arizona for his senior year of prep-school ball.

Westry, who is universally deemed a four-star prospect and top-45 player in his class, recently took an official visit to the Hill. He’s made other official visits of late to Auburn, Nebraska and LSU as well. There are also rumblings online that Westry may be in line for a pro deal.

From a national rankings perspective, Rivals.com currently is the highest on Westry. That recruiting service has him at No. 24 overall in the 2022 cycle, as well as the No. 6 point guard.

The 247Sports recruiting service recently updated its national ratings for the 2022 class, and Westry checks in at No. 39. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite, by the way, has him at No. 32 nationally.

ESPN, too, recently published a new version of its 2022 rankings. Westry previously was in the low 50s, and now he is No. 41, according to ESPN.

Syracuse basketball has pursued Westry for a long time, offering him a scholarship about two years ago. He holds a ton of high-major offers, from teams such as Michigan, Virginia, Connecticut, Louisville, Memphis, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Miami, Florida, Maryland, Southern California, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Providence, St. John’s, VCU, Georgia and Temple.

Westry is one of three 2022 point guards that the Orange is targeting. The other two are fellow four-stars Quadir Copeland and Central New York native J.J. Starling.

If I had to rank them, I think that the ‘Cuse is most likely to pick up Copeland, followed by Starling and Westry.
