Syracuse basketball high-priority target Kyle Filipowski visited the Hill this past weekend, and he also landed a big-time award for his stellar junior season.

The 6-foot-10 power forward, a four-star prospect in the 2022 class, has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts for the 2020-21 campaign, according to an announcement.

Filipowski, an elite big man in his class, is a junior at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass., and he suits up for the New York City-based NY Renaissance on the AAU circuit.

According to the Gatorade press release, Filipowski in his junior term averaged 21.0 points, 13.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks a game, while hitting on 56.3 percent from the field.

He has a bevy of scholarship offers and interest from high-major squads, such as the Orange, Duke, Connecticut, Ohio State, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Rutgers, UCLA, Illinois, Maryland, Louisville, Purdue, Creighton, Marquette, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Providence, Northwestern and Stanford.

Syracuse basketball faces heavy competition for talented 2022 big man Kyle Filipowski.

According to multiple media reports, Filipowski had an official visit in Central New York on June 5-6. He has scheduled numerous other visits in June, including to the Blue Devils.

Filipowski is ranked as high as No. 31 nationally in the 2022 cycle by ESPN. Most of the primary recruiting services rate him as a top-60 prospect overall in this class.

Rivals.com recently updated its national rankings of the top-150 prospects within the 2022 cycle, and Filipowski possessed one of the largest ratings jumps in this class.

Filipowski skyrocketed 69 spots, to No. 48 overall, in the 2022 class. Rivals.com also has him as the No. 6 power forward across the country in this cycle.

I’m hopeful that Syracuse basketball coaches and players made a positive impression on Filipowski during his official visit to the ‘Cuse. Filipowski has spoken highly of the Syracuse basketball program, although competition for his services is obviously massive.

His planned trip to Duke at the end of June worries me the most, but there are plenty of other impressive groups in the mix for Filipowski as well.
