Syracuse basketball will get an official visit next month from elite 2022 big man Kyle Filipowski, which is quite encouraging. However, the four-star prospect has also scheduled a few other visits that certainly illustrate the intense competition for Filipowski.

According to a tweet from recruiting guru Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com, Filipowski has set up five official visits and two unofficial visits for the month of June.

The official visits are to the ‘Cuse, Ohio State, Indiana, Iowa and Duke, per Weingarten. The unofficial visits are to Connecticut and Northwestern.

The 6-foot-10 power forward has many more scholarship offers beyond the teams that he will visit in June. They include from Miami, Rutgers, UCLA, Illinois, Maryland, Louisville, Purdue, Creighton, Marquette, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Providence and Stanford.

Filipowski is a junior at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass., and he suits up for the New York City-based NY Renaissance on the AAU circuit.

One of the premier big men in the 2022 cycle, Filipowski only recently landed an offer from Syracuse basketball, although it does seem that Orange coaches have made him a priority in this class.

Syracuse basketball is in a recruiting battle for four-star Kyle Filipowski.

As we recently detailed in a column, the Blue Devils have not officially offered Filipowski yet, although I would imagine that Duke will do so in the near future. That is concerning, in my humble opinion.

His other June visits are filled with strong Big Ten squads. Ohio State is a pre-season top-10 team for next season, according to numerous pundits.

Indiana has brought on board former NBA boss Mike Woodson as its head coach. Iowa develops big men quite well, with the most recent example being Luka Garza, who picked up a ton of national player of the year honors in the 2020-21 campaign.

Connecticut has geographic proximity in the Northeast to where Filipowski plays prep-school ball, and UConn is also in the top eight for 2022 four-star center Donovan Clingan, who is a junior at Bristol Central High School in Bristol, Conn.

All in all, the ‘Cuse faces an uphill climb to pick up Filipowski, based on the groups that he is visiting, plus factoring in the other offers he has received.

Filipowski, who is ranked as high as No. 31 nationally in the 2022 cycle by ESPN, is expected to travel to the Hill on June 5-6, according to Weingarten.

That will amount to Filipowski’s first visit in June, at least as it stands now. Hopefully, the Syracuse basketball coaching staff will make a lasting impression.
