Syracuse basketball seems intent on pursuing and prioritizing stellar 2022 big man Kyle Filipowski even as competition intensifies all the time for the four-star prospect.
It is only approaching about two weeks since the Orange got into the fray for the 6-foot-10 power forward, when the ‘Cuse offered a scholarship to him.
Filipowski is a junior at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass., and competes for the New York City-based NY Renaissance on the AAU circuit.
Of late, other offers that have arrived for him include from Big Ten Conference member Indiana, according to recruiting guru Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com.
Additionally, per Filipowski’s bio on the 247Sports Web site, he recently landed an offer from another Big Ten team in Rutgers, which beat Syracuse basketball at home in the recently concluded campaign.
Other previous offers include from Ohio State, UCLA, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Iowa, Louisville, Purdue, Creighton, Marquette, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Providence and Stanford, per a review of several recruiting Web sites.
According to some media reports, among those high-majors that could also offer Filipowski at some point are Duke, Villanova and Virginia.
I’m not in Filipowski’s inner circle, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if other blue-blood squads, whether Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina or Michigan State, also enter the fray for him.
Syracuse basketball faces a huge climb trying to win out for 2022 big man Kyle Filipowski.
As we previously detailed, it’s encouraging that one of Filipowski’s five NCAA-allowed official visits will be to the Hill, as he is planning to check out the Orange campus in early June.
Filipowski is ranked as high as No. 31 nationally in the 2022 class by ESPN. While not all of the primary recruiting Web sites presently rate him within the top-100 overall in his cycle, that’s going to change. Mark my words.
I’ve read numerous comments from analysts and other recruiting insiders since Syracuse basketball offered him that Filipowski could absolutely evolve into a five-star, top-25 player in his class.
Clearly, there is a lot of momentum in Filipowski’s favor, so the offers should continue to pour in. I’m glad that the ‘Cuse is involved with him, but it will amount to a massive challenge for the team to prevail in the recruiting sweepstakes over Filipowski.
In case you didn’t already know, Filipowski has a twin brother, Matt, a center who is described as a tremendous shot-blocker. Matt’s recruiting process is starting to heat up as well, according to some analysts.
Given that I’m a twin myself, I think it would prove great fun if Syracuse basketball offered Matt as well. I’d love to see the Filipowski brothers both suit up for the Orange.
