This summer is going to prove really fun for Syracuse basketball, as the team is pursuing a range of top-flight players in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
Since the NCAA recently announced that all Division I sports may return to their regular recruiting initiatives beginning on June 1, high-school basketball players are starting to map out their official visits to college campuses. Players are allowed five official visits, by the way.
Already, according to media reports, two Orange prospects in the 2022 cycle have made plans to take official visits to the Hill in June. They are four-star wing Justin Taylor, from the St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Va., and four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski, who attends the Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass.
But the ‘Cuse coaching staff is also eyeing multiple other excellent players in this class, so we’re going to have a look at some of the guys whom we hope will travel to Central New York for official visits in the future.
Syracuse basketball could see a bunch of 2022 prospects come for campus visits.
For me, at the top of the list are three absolute studs in this cycle. And they are four-star center Donovan Clingan, four-star combo guard Chance Westry and four-star point guard J.J. Starling, who is a CNY native.
Clingan, who suits up for Bristol Central High School in Bristol, Conn., recently announced a top eight that includes the Orange. Westry, one of my favorites in the 2022 class, is out on the West Coast at the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif.
Starling formerly starred at Charles W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, N.Y., and now competes for the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind. He recently detailed his solid relationship with the Syracuse basketball program.
Additionally, I have a good feeling that three-star point guard Quadir Copeland will end up taking an official visit to the Hill. An under-rated prospect in this cycle, Copeland is transferring from the Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J., to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Four-star wing Kamari Lands has already given a verbal commitment to the ‘Cuse, but it would still be great if the stand-out from Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, Calif., made a trip to the Orange campus.
Finally, this is probably a huge long-shot, but I’d love to see four-star combo guard Zion Cruz head to Central New York for an official visit. Cruz is with The Patrick School in Hillside, N.J.
