The Syracuse football defense received a nice boost on Friday when 2022 three-star defensive end Malachi Davis out of Michigan verbally committed to the Orange.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Davis, a junior from Holt Senior High School in Holt, Mich., is a top-65 strong-side defensive end in this cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Per a review of several recruiting Web sites, Davis held about a dozen offers, from teams such as Air Force, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Louisville, Tulane, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan.
I read a handful of articles about Davis, and some recruiting analysts describe him as possessing solid speed, length and athleticism. Experts also say that he has the potential to be a good run defender and pass rusher at the collegiate level.

With Davis on board, Syracuse football now has a trio of commitments in its 2022 class. The other two are three-star running back LeQuint Allen with Millville High School in Millville, N.J., and three-star prospect Cornell Perry, who suits up at both defensive back and wide receiver for Woodhaven High School in Brownstown, Mich.
Syracuse football has picked up 2022 three-star defensive end Malachi Davis.
Mike McAllister, the publisher of SyracuseOnSI, wrote in an article that Davis collected 52 tackles, including 22 tackles for loss, during his junior stanza.
McAllister noted that the Orange offered a scholarship to Davis in February of this year, and the ‘Cuse coaching staff had “prioritized Davis ever since.”
For what it’s worth, the day before Davis pledged his services to Syracuse football, 247Sports national analyst Brian Dohn entered a prediction that Davis would ultimately select the ‘Cuse.
The 247Sports Composite, 247Sports and Rivals.com all rate Davis as a three-star high-school player. The 247Sports Composite ranks Davis at No. 1,147 overall in the 2022 recruiting class, as well as No. 62 at strong-side defensive end and No. 38 in the state of Michigan.
Over at 247Sports, he is No. 74 at his position and No. 42 in Michigan. Finally, Rivals.com places Davis as the No. 30 prospect in Michigan.
Welcome to the Syracuse football family, Malachi!
