It would prove beautiful to have fans back in the stands for Syracuse basketball games next season, and university officials are hoping that this may occur.

As we all know, there was no in-person attendance for Orange men’s and women’s basketball games at the Carrier Dome during the 2020-21 term, despite many other teams around the country offering limited attendance amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

And there have also been some fans in the stands in the ongoing 2021 NCAA Tournament, where the ‘Cuse men’s squad will face Houston on Saturday night in a regional semi-final.

Even with a small number of people watching in-person, it’s clear that fans’ support of the Orange has provided a boost to the team through its present wonderful run in the Big Dance.

Sophomore point guard Joe Girard III, for one, has definitely gotten amped up by the crowds in the first two March Madness games for Syracuse basketball. It’s awesome to see him feed off of that excitement provided by ‘Cuse hoops fanatics.

Syracuse basketball, hopefully, will have big crowds once again in 2021-22.

The Syracuse University athletics department recently published a press release where it discussed how season-ticket renewals for men’s and women’s basketball contests for the 2021-22 stanza are now available.

"Check out this quote from the announcement. “In advance of the 2021-22 basketball seasons, Syracuse University will continue to review potential plans for attendance and is hopeful to be able to host a full stadium on our campus. Should an adjustment need to be made to accommodate reduced capacity restrictions, options will be outlined in the ticket refund policy on cuse.com/tickets.”"

The next season is a long time away – hey, let’s hope that the current campaign continues on past Saturday evening. But looking ahead, if Covid-19 vaccination rates continue to increase, positive cases decrease, and our country eyes a return to somewhat of a pre-pandemic normalcy, then I could definitely envision the Carrier Dome being chock full of passionate fans in 2021-22.

That, my friends, would be glorious. Yes, in the 2020-21 term, Syracuse basketball finished with a tremendous 13-1 record at home, even without fans in the stands.

Undeniably, though, head coach Jim Boeheim, the players and the rest of the Orange’s staff would love to have thousands of fans standing and clapping before the first ‘Cuse basket in a few months’ time.
