Numerous recruiting analysts of late have raved about the promise and skill-set of 2023 prospect Matas Buzelis, who landed a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball last November.

The 247Sports recruiting service recently updated its national rankings for the top-75 players in this cycle, and the 6-foot-8 Buzelis has vaulted from unrated status into the top 50 of this class.

Also placed as a four-star prospect in the 2023 class, Buzelis checks in at No. 46 overall according to 247Sports, as well as the No. 10 small forward and the No. 1 player in New Hampshire.

Buzelis is a sophomore at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. He previously attended Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Ill., a Chicago suburb.

As we noted in a recent column on Buzelis, his list of offers is expanding in a big-time way. Blue-blood team Kansas and former Big East Conference foe Providence are among those high-majors that have recently offered Buzelis.

Others that have offered him include Illinois, Wake Forest and Western Illinois, and Buzelis is also reportedly receiving interest from Michigan, Wisconsin and Northwestern.

Syracuse basketball 2023 target Matas Buzelis is now a top-50 prospect nationally.

While some recruiting Web sites characterize Buzelis as a small forward, I’ve read various articles on him that say he can also suit up at point guard and shooting guard. Given his height and size, Buzelis would certainly thrive at the top of the Orange’s 2-3 zone.

In a recent roundtable, a handful of 247Sports analysts discussed the updated class of 2023 rankings. Dushawn London, a national analyst for 247Sports, chimed in on Buzelis, saying that he “has potential to exceed his current ranking of No. 46 nationally.”

London said that Buzelis is “long, and has a pretty diverse skill set.” The 247Sports national analyst added about the Syracuse basketball 2023 prospect, “Developing his body will be useful for his size and length but with time and work that aspect can come to his game and help in a big way.”

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Buzelis sees a bunch of new offers arrive for him in the near future, and when all is said and done, he could contend for five-star status in the 2023 cycle, as well as a top-25 overall rating in this class.
