Chance Westry, who received a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball back in the summer of 2019, is making a move toward becoming a five-star prospect in the 2022 class, according to some recruiting analysts.

The four-star combo guard, a junior at the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif., recently put on a clinic at an event where some of the best high-school players participated, and Westry has received a ton of praise from analysts and other recruiting insiders as a result.

On March 5, Westry and his teammates, playing as the California Basketball Club, suited up versus Seattle Rotary at The Battle Basketball Showcase in American Fork, Utah.

According to a piece from Rob Cassidy, the basketball recruiting director for Rivals.com, the 6-foot-5 Westry “was a breakout star” at the event, as he collected 20 points.

"Westry, a top-55 prospect in his cycle, “is making his case to slide even further up the rankings,” Cassidy wrote. “The 6-foot-5 combo guard finished through contact, knocked down 3-pointers, created his own shot and showed a knack for facilitating.”"

Syracuse basketball 2022 target Chance Westry is competing at an elite level.

At this juncture, Westry is ranked No. 34 overall in the 2022 class by the 247Sports Composite, as well as No. 29 by 247Sports, No. 32 by Rivals.com and No. 55 via ESPN.com.

As I mentioned earlier, some recruiting analysts think that Westry will end up as five stars. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he also is a top-20 prospect nationally in the 2022 cycle when all is said and done.

Westry boasts an abundance of scholarship offers from high-major squads, such as Michigan, Virginia, Louisville, Memphis, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Miami, Florida, Maryland, Southern California, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Providence, St. John’s, VCU, Georgia and Temple.

There was a period of time when the Orange appeared to have nice buzz regarding Westry’s recruitment, although that seems to have quieted down some. Then again, Westry’s recruiting process could have a long way to go, and he hasn’t compiled any sort of list of finalists yet.

Additionally, I’m not seeing any analysts projecting a favorite or favorites for Westry at this point. I’ve read a lot of comments from Syracuse basketball fans on social media and in chat rooms who are adamant that the Orange isn’t in the mix for Westry any longer.

While I’m not saying that the ‘Cuse is a front-runner to land him, I also don’t think that Syracuse basketball is completely out of contention for Westry, either. Only time will tell.

Cassidy of Rivals.com did say this about Westry. “The four-star prospect was once thought to be a heavy Syracuse lean and may well still be. Maryland, Florida, Michigan, Georgetown and others are also involved.”
