Syracuse basketball, over the years, has fared well in recruiting elite Canadian prospects to the Hill, and Orange fans are hoping that the next one in line is 2023 five-star wing Elijah Fisher.

The 6-foot-7 Fisher, a sophomore at the Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, is one of the best players in his cycle and could contend for the No. 1 overall ranking in the 2023 class, according to some recruiting analysts.

Although his recruiting process likely has a long way to go, Fisher already possesses a boatload of high-major offers, including from Syracuse basketball, Kansas, Florida State, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Memphis, Seton Hall, West Virginia and Southern California, among others.

Kentucky is also showing interest in Fisher, and he has spoken highly of that blue-blood team in several recent interviews. Fisher recently got started playing in the current term, something that we detailed in a column.

In an article by 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham, Fisher had this to say about the beginning of his new season. “Personally I think I played horrible. I think can play better and bring more to the team. I feel like as the season goes on and the more we play, the better bond we will have and we will win more games.”

Syracuse basketball faces intense competition for 2023 five-star prospect Elijah Fisher.

"Regarding his recruitment, Fisher told Branham, “It’s going well personally. I feel really confident with it. No schools have been reaching out to me personally but a lot of schools have been reaching out to my coach. Kentucky reached out to my coach and Syracuse and other schools keep checking in on me with my coach.”"

Fisher did say some positive things about the ‘Cuse, telling Branham, “I love the way that program is and I have gotten to know some players that go there so I feel like it’s a great organization with a lot of winning through there.”

Without question, it’s really encouraging to read that Fisher is connecting with Orange players. Fisher, if he did end up choosing the ‘Cuse, would be one of the highest-rated recruits for Syracuse basketball in recent years.

Branham writes that, “As with most Canadian prospects, there could be an option to reclassify up a class and he noted where things stood on that potential possibility.”

Fisher said, “For me there could be an option to reclassify but for right now I am trying to work on my game and get better.” This is a development that we will definitely continue to monitor.

So what is the 2023 prospect searching for in a future college group? Fisher said to Branham, “I just need to go to a school that is going to help me as a person, it’s not all about basketball but outside of basketball too.”

Excellent sentiments from this talented young man.
