Edwin Wilson Tara Kolenge, an elite 2022 linebacker who hails from Canada, has trimmed his list of potential suitors down to eight, and Syracuse football is still in the running.

The 6-foot-3 Kolenge recently disclosed via Twitter his group of eight finalists, and they are the Orange, along with Virginia Tech, Boston College, Rutgers, West Virginia, Howard, Indiana and Nebraska.

Kolenge’s hometown is in Montreal, Quebec, and he is currently a junior at the Clearwater Academy International in Clearwater, Fla.

According to his bio on the 247Sports Web site, where he is described as an inside linebacker, Kolenge holds a total of 15 scholarship offers. Mike McAllister, the publisher of SyracuseOnSI, notes in a piece that the ‘Cuse was the first to offer a scholarship to Kolenge, with that offer arriving in April of 2020.

I’m not seeing Kolenge in the 2022 overall rankings by some of the recruiting services like 247Sports and Rivals.com. However, regardless of these kinds of ratings, from what I’ve read about Kolenge in various articles, he is an excellent linebacker.

Syracuse football has made the top eight for 2022 linebacker Edwin Wilson Tara Kolenge.

Per McAllister, Kolenge is eyeing a decision on his collegiate destination “during the summer before his senior season.” The Orange 2022 target recently conducted a virtual visit with the ‘Cuse coaching staff, McAllister says.

"“It went great,” Kolenge told McAllister about his virtual visit with Syracuse football. “I saw the campus and the football facilities. It was amazing. And the football facilities stood out because they play in the Dome and they’re the only FBS (school) I think to play there.”"

Kolenge added in McAllister’s story, “I’m very interested because it’s a great academic school, especially for engineering, and good football program They are also close to home. As of right now it’s one of my top schools.”

Last month, the Orange secured its first 2022 commitment, from three-star Cornell Perry. The 6-foot-1 Perry, who plays both defensive back and wide receiver, is a junior at Woodhaven High School in Brownstown, Mich.

Syracuse football is also in the top six for 2022 three-star running back LeQuint Allen.

The 6-foot-0 Allen, a junior at Millville High School in Millville, N.J., is down to the ‘Cuse, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, West Virginia and Temple.
