Syracuse basketball elite 2023 target Elijah Fisher, who received a scholarship offer from the Orange last summer, is competing at the Big Shots Prep Nationals in Rock Hill, S.C., and a national recruiting analyst is providing some insights into Fisher’s play.
The 6-foot-7 Fisher, a sophomore wing at the Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, is a five-star prospect and also a top-five player overall in the 2023 class, according to several of the main recruiting services.
If you’d like to view Fisher’s statistics at the Big Shots Prep Nationals, they are found by clicking here.
Travis Branham, a national analyst with 247Sports, says that this high-school event is the inaugural instance in a year since Fisher has suited up for official games due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
"Check out what Branham had to say about Fisher. “There was certainly some rust to shake off but the Canadian showed positive signs of development. Fisher has a bigger, stronger frame and was much more aggressive attacking off the bounce. He’s a terrific athlete as well with an improved handle and when he got downhill, he proved difficult to contain whether he was finishing above the rim, through contact or earning trips to the free throw line. He can continue to improve his shot-making but for his first games in a year, his approach to get downhill with his size, strength and athleticism and improved handle were encouraging developments in his game as a slasher.”"
Syracuse basketball 2023 five-star target Elijah Fisher has returned to the court.
Branham is not the first national recruiting analyst to speak of Fisher’s athleticism and “slasher” mentality. It’s definitely great to hear from Branham that Fisher has added some strength and continues to be assertive on offense.
It’s important to note that in Branham’s assessment of Fisher, the analyst also writes, “Fisher says he has been hearing from Kentucky and Syracuse.”
While his recruiting process likely has a long way to go, Fisher already owns a bunch of scholarship offers from high-major programs such as Kansas, Florida State, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Memphis, Seton Hall, West Virginia and Southern California, among others. From what I can tell, Kentucky hasn’t officially offered Fisher – yet.
In a recent story by Rivals.com national analyst Rob Cassidy, Fisher said when he is able to visit schools, given recruiting limitations brought on by Covid-19, he looks forward to checking out Florida State, Kansas and Kentucky.
I’m hopeful that when official visits are allowed by the NCAA, Fisher will also make a trip to the Hill. He would, obviously, be a game-changer for the ‘Cuse in its 2023 cycle, which is a class that Syracuse basketball doesn’t have a commit for at this juncture.
