NBA head coaches have chosen the reserves for the upcoming All-Star game, and former Syracuse basketball star Jerami Grant didn’t make the cut, which is absurd.

The 2021 NBA All-Star game’s starters and reserves are found here in a press release from the league. Of course, every player named either a starter or a reserve is having a fantastic season.

Maybe I have a bit of bias in me, because I’m a Syracuse University alum. But what Grant has done to date in the current term for a struggling Detroit Pistons squad is simply remarkable.

According to Grant’s bio on ESPN.com, the 6-foot-8 forward is averaging 36.3 minutes through 31 contests. He is collecting 23.3 points per affair, good for 20th in the NBA, along with 5.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 blocks a game.

Additionally, Grant is connecting on 43.6 percent from the field, 88.7 percent from the charity stripe and 37.2 percent from beyond the arc, all while being a focal point of Detroit’s offense.

Would someone please explain to me how these numbers weren’t impressive enough to earn Grant a spot in the 2021 NBA All-Star game? I truly don’t get it.

Former Syracuse basketball player Jerami Grant is shining in the pros this stanza.

It’s true that Grant’s team, the Pistons, possesses one of the worst records in the NBA at this juncture in the present season. However, there are other guys who are receiving inclusion on the 2021 NBA All-Star game rosters and suit up for sub-par squads as well.

According to the league’s official announcement, the 70th NBA All-Star game will take place on Sunday, March 7, from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, with television coverage provided by TNT.

Other events that annually occur along with the actual game, such as the skills challenge, the 3-point shooting contest and the slam-dunk contest, will also be held on March 7.

Prior to the NBA’s 2020-21 campaign commencing, Grant was traded by the Denver Nuggets to Detroit. A member of the Orange’s 2013 Final Four group, Grant was picked No. 39 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.

He has competed for the 76ers, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver and now the Pistons, where Grant is having by far his best season as a pro.
