Syracuse basketball has two talented centers, four-star Donovan Clingan and three-star Riley Mulvey, already in the mix as possible recruits for its 2022 class, but now the Orange is reportedly also taking a look at five-star big Enoch Boakye, who has de-committed from Michigan State, according to numerous media articles.

Recruiting guru Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com, sent out a tweet on Friday morning that speaks to the ‘Cuse coaching staff inquiring about elite Canadian prospect Boakye, a 6-foot-10 junior who attends the George Harris Preparatory Academy in Mississauga, Ontario.

As a footnote, Mississauga is the hometown of former Syracuse basketball star Oshae Brissett, and over the years the Orange has done quite well in recruiting top high-school players from Canada to the Hill.

Weingarten’s tweet from Friday morning about Boakye also said that ‘Cuse head coach “Jim Boeheim hasn’t called him but is expected to at some point.”

Let’s be clear. We don’t know the interest level that Syracuse basketball may have in Boakye, and conversely whether he’s interested in the Orange.

Furthermore, since word broke earlier this week that Boakye was re-opening his recruiting process, a slew of high-major teams has reached out. Plus, per Weingarten and other reports, Boakye is considering a reclassification to the 2021 class, as well as going the professional route. This is a fluid situation for sure.

Syracuse basketball has inquired about 2022 five-star big man Enoch Boakye.

According to Weingarten and other media stories, among the squads that have reached out regarding Boakye are Kentucky, Maryland, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, Arizona State, Washington, UCLA and South Carolina.

Weingarten adds in a separate tweet that he expects both Duke and Gonzaga to make inquiries on Boakye.

Boakye is rated four stars by the 247Sports Composite and Rivals.com, and he is placed as five stars by 247Sports itself. Since Boakye suits up in Canada, not all of the primary recruiting services are going to rank him.

However, 247Sports slots Boakye at No. 20 overall in the 2022 class, as well as No. 4 at center and No. 1 in Ontario. The 247Sports Composite lists him as No. 32 nationally in this cycle, No. 4 at center and No. 1 in Ontario.

Naturally, we’ll keep a close eye on this situation to see if Orange coaches offer him a scholarship. I can’t imagine that the ‘Cuse has much of a chance at landing Boakye, given the ridiculous competition, but you never know how things will play out in the unpredictable recruiting world.
