Syracuse Basketball: 2024 prospect Derik Queen stars at recent tourney
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball has recently shown interest in 2024 forward Derik Queen.
Several recruiting analysts have said that Derik Queen could ultimately prove one of the best players across the country in the 2024 class, and we detailed a couple of months ago how Syracuse basketball is reportedly displaying interest in the 6-foot-8 power forward.
Queen, a freshman at the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, recently caught the attention of recruiting experts when he suited up at the Beach Ball Classic, an annual tournament held in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
"Here’s what Jamie Shaw with NCPreps Hoops had to say about Queen. “People around the basketball community may already know the name Derik Queen, but for the common basketball fan, the 6’8” freshman from Baltimore, MD/St Frances is someone they should become familiar with. Queen already has multiple offers from the likes of LSU, Georgetown, Virginia Tech and others. Standing 6’8”, Queen has a sturdy frame with poise, skill and ball skills.”Adds Eric Bossi, the national basketball director with 247Sports, “There has been a pretty considerable buzz about Queen a skilled big man from the class of 2024. He’s got tremendous size, great hands, can pass it a bit and shows some skill with the ball. I have no idea what rankings for the class of 2024 are going to look like, but on first impression I’d imagine that Queen is one that we’ll be talking about and that big schools will be chasing over the next few years. Given that Arizona State, Georgetown, LSU, Maryland and Virginia Tech have already offered scholarships, it is safe to say that the chase has already begun.”"

Hopefully, Syracuse basketball will offer elite 2024 forward Derik Queen.
As 247Sports’ Bossi noted, Queen already has five scholarship offers, from the likes of Virginia Tech, LSU, Maryland, Georgetown and Arizona State. He has also garnered interest from the Orange, Florida State and Pittsburgh.
It’s so early in the recruiting process for players in the 2024 class, although it seems pretty certain that Queen’s offer list is only going to continue growing.
We’ll of course keep tabs on whether ‘Cuse coaches offer a scholarship to Queen. When the main recruiting services publish national rankings of 2024 prospects down the road, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Queen resides in the top 25 of this cycle, if not higher.
Syracuse basketball is pursuing five-star players in the 2022 and 2023 classes, and offering Queen could make it three cycles in a row, if he gets rated that high. Plus, 2021 commit Benny Williams is five stars, per Rivals.com.
