Syracuse Basketball: 3-star Riley Mulvey ‘could easily see myself’ at ‘Cuse
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball continues on as a legitimate landing sport for 2022 big man Riley Mulvey.
Riley Mulvey is a three-star center and high-priority target for Syracuse basketball in the team’s 2022 class, which has the makings of a special cycle for the Orange.
Okay, so at this juncture, the 6-foot-11 Mulvey isn’t a four- or five-star prospect, and he’s not ranked in the top 100 of the 2022 class by the main recruiting services.
That is something I’ve seen numerous Syracuse basketball fans lament about, however, with Mulvey, I say throw the recruiting rankings out the window.
First of all, he’s under-rated in this cycle, and his recruitment keeps on growing at a solid pace on a national scale. So I do expect Mulvey’s 2022 ratings to ultimately climb up the charts.
Secondly, rankings aren’t the only thing that matters, even if I acknowledge that I rely on them in writing many of my stories. The point here is that Mulvey has a terrific low-post skill-set, and I believe that he would prove a wonderful fit in the ‘Cuse 2-3 zone.
It seems that Syracuse basketball coaches also feel Mulvey is an excellent player for their system.
“I’d be a central role on defense in the zone,” Mulvey told Mike McAllister, the publisher of SyracuseOnSI, in a recent interview. “I’d be a big part of the offense with passing and/or post play.”
Riley Mulvey, a really good 2022 center, is bullish on Syracuse basketball.
Mulvey is a junior at the St. Thomas More School, a prep school in Oakdale, Conn. He previously attended the Albany Academy in Albany, N.Y., and has also competed on the AAU circuit for the Albany City Rocks, a program that has sent numerous players to the Orange squad in recent years.
"“Syracuse, for me, is a big consideration and I could easily see myself there,” Mulvey said to McAllister. “I think I’d put them in one of the colleges I’m really thinking of going to.”"
As we recently noted in a feature on Mulvey, his latest scholarship offers arrived from fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia Tech as well as Pennsylvania out of the Ivy League. Other prior offers have come from Syracuse basketball, back in August, along with Albany, Bryant, Iowa, Massachusetts, Penn State, Siena and Yale.
Per Mulvey in the McAllister story, “Iowa and Virginia Tech are on the same level as Syracuse in his recruitment.”
For now, Prep Hoops has Mulvey at No. 185 nationally in the 2022 class, whereas the 247Sports Composite places him at No. 219 overall.
