Syracuse Football: Game time, TV, Radio and more vs. Notre Dame
By Josh Peelman
Syracuse Football takes on Notre Dame in the 2020 season finale Saturday afternoon. Here’s what you need to be able to watch and listen to the game.
The Syracuse Football season is finally drawing to a close and it could not be soon enough. The Orange have their last battle of the year against Notre Dame on the road in what looks like a big mismatch. The Orange enter this game as one of the worst in the ACC and country while Notre Dame is one of the nation’s best, ranking No. 2 overall in the country and No. 1 in the ACC. The good news Orange fans is that the season is not over until the last whistle blows, so anything is possible, especially in 2020.
In a season that has been a nightmare for the Orange, there is much good that still came out of it. First, Syracuse football due to all the injuries and opt-outs (NFL, Covid, etc.) got their young freshman and sophomores lots of reps and playing time which will be very beneficial next year and the years to come.
In addition, due to the NCAA allowing all fall and winter sports athletes to have an extra year of eligibility (regardless of whether they played or not this year), according to SI.com, will only make next year’s team stronger. That will especially be important in a year that Dino Babers and Orange fans need it to be a good one after two horrible campaigns in a row. First things first though: the Orange must finish out 2020 and play Notre Dame Saturday.
According to the matchup predictor on ESPN.com, it gives Notre Dame a 98.0% chance of winning, compared to SU’s very dismal 2.0%. That’s about as bad as it gets. They also see the Fighting Irish winning by a scoring margin of 34 points. In other words, the odds are stacked heavily against the Orange in this one and it would probably be a miracle if they pulled off the upset on the road.
In regards to the game itself though, let’s see how both teams stack up so far this season:
How do these teams match up?
Total yards per game: Syracuse 250.4 yards, Notre Dame 464.0 yards
Points per game: Syracuse 17.5, Notre Dame 36.9
Points Allowed per game: Syracuse 31.5, Notre Dame 16.7
Yards Allowed per game: Syracuse 453.5 yards, Notre Dame 303.4 yards
*all stats above via ESPN.com
Considering that Notre Dame is ranked No. 2 in the nation and is undefeated this late in the season, it’s no wonder that the Orange, who is last in the ACC and country in multiple statistical categories trails in all four mentioned above. This game will probably not be close unless the Irish come out thinking they have a win locked up before the game starts. Even then, it may still take a miracle for the Orange to pull out one last win.
