Syracuse basketball 2023 target Elijah Fisher says his confidence is growing.

In recent years, Syracuse basketball has owned a bunch of success in landing top-flight prospects from Canada, and 2023 target Elijah Fisher would represent perhaps the biggest recruiting win of them all.

The Orange offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-7 wing, a sophomore who attends Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, this past July.

Fisher, a shooting guard/small forward, isn’t ranked by all of the primary recruiting services, since he plays high-school ball in Canada. However, make no mistake about it, he is one of the premier players in his class.

Presently, 247Sports rates Fisher No. 3 overall within the 2023 cycle, as well as the No. 1 shooting guard. Prep Hoops has arranged Fisher at No. 4 nationally in his class.

What’s more, as Fisher continues to shine for Crestwood Preparatory College and the Toronto-based Grassroots Elite Canada on the AAU circuit, it’s entirely feasible that Fisher will contend for the No. 1 overall position in the 2023 class.

Check out what the five-star Fisher had to say on this topic in his latest blog post for SI All-American. “I feel like I’m the best player, regardless of class or country; now I just want to go out and prove it,” he writes.

Syracuse basketball 2023 target Elijah Fisher is a top candidate for the No. 1 overall ranking in his class.

In Fisher’s blog posts as well as other recent articles about him, when he discusses his recruitment, the Orange is usually mentioned. That’s encouraging, although his recruiting process has a long way to go.

Plus, even though he’s just a sophomore, Fisher already has nearly 20 offers from an abundance of impressive teams, such as Florida State, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Memphis, Morgan State, Oregon, Seton Hall, Southern California, St. John’s, Texas A&M and West Virginia.

"Fisher wrote in his most recent blog post, “The recruitment is still pretty steady, Eastern Michigan reached out recently and the same schools like Syracuse, Oregon State, Texas A&M, Dayton, Morgan State, Tennessee and others are still calling a lot.”"

During a recent Q&A session, I asked recruiting analyst and journalist Mike McAllister, the publisher of SyracuseOnSI, which Orange basketball prospect or prospects in various classes, including 2023, he believes the ‘Cuse has the best chance of securing.

McAllister said as it pertains to the 2023 cycle, “It is still VERY early, but I would say wing Elijah Fisher. A Canadian prospect with length and a terrific all around game, he would be a great fit.”

Some Orange fans have lamented the squad’s recruiting efforts of late, but consider this. In 2021, five-star small forward and top-25 player Benny Williams has committed. In 2022, the ‘Cuse has a pledge from five-star point guard Dior Johnson, the No. 3 prospect in this class, per 247Sports.

So if Syracuse basketball manages to obtain Fisher as well, wow. That would make a five-star player and elite prospect on a national scale in three-straight cycles. Pretty darn good, if you ask me.

"We’ll end with this quote from Fisher. “I feel like my confidence has grown so much in this time off in the [novel coronavirus] pandemic. I just feel like I think the game through more. I’m feeling more confident about my scoring ability at every level, so I’m able to take advantage of matchups so much easier.”"
