An analyst breaks down the best 2022 prospects by position, with Syracuse basketball commit Dior Johnson getting love.
Syracuse basketball five-star commit Dior Johnson is the No. 3 player across the country in high-school hoops within the 2022 class, per 247Sports, and he’s also the No. 1 point guard in this cycle, that recruiting service says.
Eric Bossi, the national basketball director for 247Sports, has published a piece where he takes a look at positional rankings for members of the 2022 class.
"At point guard, the 6-foot-3 Johnson is the “top dog,” according to Bossi, who adds, “Committed to Syracuse, Dior Johnson is currently leading the pack at the point guard position. Originally from New York, Johnson is back to California for his junior year and even though he has bounced around a bit, his game has traveled to each destination. One of the craftiest and most skilled point guards to come along in a bit, he’s got great size to go along with his feel for scoring and setting up others.”"
Syracuse basketball 2022 commit Dior Johnson and other targets are holding strong in positional rankings from 247Sports.
Johnson recently enrolled at Corona Centennial High School in Corona, Calif., after leaving the Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. His former teammate at the Oak Hill Academy, five-star Zion Cruz, is listed by Bossi as one of the premier combo guards in the 2022 cycle.
Cruz, whom the ‘Cuse is pursuing and recently transferred to The Patrick School in Hillside, N.J., is presently No. 21 overall in the latest 247Sports ratings for this class.
At small forward, Michigan State commit Emoni Bates is No. 1, however, Syracuse basketball target Chris Bunch is making a move, per Bossi.
The four-star Bunch, who attends De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif., received a scholarship offer from the Orange this past April. He is up to No. 93 nationally in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports.
Bunch, whose most-recent offer is from Maryland out of the Big Ten Conference, has accumulated nearly 25 offers and boasts “legitimate” top-50 promise in this cycle, Bossi says.
Five-star Jarace Walker with the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., has apparently moved over to the power-forward spot in the view of 247Sports, and Bossi writes, “The discussion for top power forward was easily the most spirited and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield just edged out Jarace Walker and Kijani Wright.”
Walker, an Orange target, is No. 8 in the updated 247Sports national ratings for the 2022 class.
