A national analyst says that Syracuse basketball 2022 high-priority target Chance Westry may head to five-star status.

Syracuse basketball remains in the mix for 2022 four-star guard Chance Westry, a top-40 prospect nationally in this cycle, and analysts don’t foresee any front-runners to land the talented prospect for the time being.

When recruiting service 247Sports recently updated its national ratings for the 2022 class, Westry dropped a tad, by two placements to No. 29 overall.

However, one national recruiting expert says that Westry could make his way to a five-star rating.

Travis Branham, a national analyst for 247Sports, participated in a roundtable where he and others got asked which four-star prospect they could see getting to five stars before he graduates.

Branham responded, “The more I see of this class, the more I realize that there are a handful of players that could make that leap but one of those that stands out to me is Chance Westry.”

Westry, by the way, is a junior who over the summer transferred from Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pa., to the Sierra Canyon School in the Los Angeles suburb of Chatsworth, Calif.

Syracuse basketball high-priority target Chance Westry could end up as a five-star 2022 player, an analyst says.

"Here’s more from Branham about Westry. “The 6-foot-4 and 190-pound combo guard possesses good size and length for the position to go with plus-athleticism. While he may not be explosive, he is shifty and fluid in his movements with the ability to change speed and direction on a dime. Not only that but he has impressive ball skills and is creative off the bounce with the ability to get to the rim or create space for his own shot. Westry is a talented three level scorer but he also makes for an impressive passer and has high upside as a playmaker. As Westry continues to develop his playmaking ability and decision making, he has high upside as a combo guard who can function both on and off the ball at a high level and make for a five-star prospect.”"

At this juncture, besides his No. 29 rating via 247Sports, Westry is No. 26 at Rivals.com, No. 27 at the 247Sports Composite, No. 34 at Prep Hoops and No. 39 at ESPN.

The Orange represented one of the earlier high-major offers for Westry, whose offer sheet is extensive and impressive. The ‘Cuse has gotten some buzz regarding Westry throughout his recruitment, but Stockrisers.com founder Jake Weingarten recently told me that he doesn’t think there are a favorite or favorites for Westry.

Plus, Kentucky is showing interest in him, and Syracuse basketball usually faces an uphill battle to win out over blue-blue schools in recruiting bouts for top-flight prospects.
