Syracuse basketball 2022 targets significantly climb, fall in new rankings

Syracuse basketball 2022 commit Dior Johnson, a five-star point guard, remains unchanged at No. 3 overall in this cycle per the latest national rankings from 247Sports for the class, but some other Orange prospects have made major moves in one direction or another.
Four-star shooting guard Roddy Gayle Jr., a high-priority target for the ‘Cuse in this class, is down 24 placements to No. 54 nationally. Four-star center Donovan Clingan, another huge priority for Syracuse basketball coaches, fell 17 positions to No. 57.
Four-star point guard J.J. Starling, a Central New York product who now suits up for a powerhouse prep-school program in Indiana, dropped 13 spots to No. 66.
Conversely, four-star small forward Ty Rodgers is up 15 positions to No. 74, while fellow four-star small forward Kamari Lands is up a half-dozen placements to No. 33.
Other Syracuse basketball targets are making smaller shifts in the new 247Sports national ratings for the 2022 class.
Five-star small forward Jarace Walker is now at No. 8 according to 247Sports, as he fell a modest two spots. Walker goes to the same prep school in Florida as Orange 2021 commit Benny Williams, who is also a five-star small forward.
Five-star guard Zion Cruz is up one position to No. 21, while Orange big-time priority target Chance Westry, a four-star guard, dropped two placements to No. 29 nationally.
Four-star wing Justin Taylor fell one spot to No. 60. Recruiting analysts have said that the ‘Cuse possesses a strong shot at landing Taylor, as the Orange has made him a high-priority prospect in this class.
Four-star small forward Chris Bunch is No. 93 overall after moving up three placements. Yann Farrell, also a four-star small forward, is up two slots to No. 97 across the country.
Finally, four-star small forward Tyrell Ward dropped two positions to No. 114 within the 2022 recruiting cycle. Syracuse basketball has yet to offer Ward a scholarship, although the Orange coaching staff is displaying interest in the talented wing.
