Syracuse football hosts a Boston College team this week whose passing attack is no joke.

This past weekend, Syracuse football lost its fourth-straight contest as Wake Forest destroyed the Orange inside the Carrier Dome. On the same day, the Orange’s next opponent, Boston College, gave No. 1 Clemson all it could handle before the Tigers squeaked out a 34-28 victory.

Yes, Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence didn’t suit up versus the Eagles after recently testing positive for Covid-19. However, Boston College played extremely well in that Atlantic Coast Conference clash, and the ‘Cuse is in for a huge challenge this coming Saturday.

Syracuse football (1-6) will welcome the Eagles (4-3) to the Hill for a 2 pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon, with television coverage provided on various Regional Sports Networks.

At this juncture in the 2020 campaign, Boston College resides squarely in the middle of the pack within the Atlantic Coast Conference standings, and the Orange is in the basement.

Odds-makers are anointing the Eagles as a roughly 14-point favorite, with ESPN’s Football Power Index saying that Boston College possesses a 79.8 percent chance to prevail.

Syracuse football will have to tighten things up in its passing defense versus Boston College.

Given the ‘Cuse performance so far during the fall term, some Orange fans are calling for a change at quarterback, whereas the Eagles are doing just fine in that department.

Boston College starting QB Phil Jurkovec, a redshirt sophomore, has compiled an impressive 1,875 passing yards along with 14 touchdowns thrown and only four interceptions, per his bio on the Eagles’ athletics department Web site.

Cuse.com says that Boston College’s 268.4 passing yards a game rates No. 29 around the country. A press release from the Eagles says that Jurkovec owns the most passing yards, completions (152) and passing TDs through the first seven affairs of any guy in program history. Yikes.

The Syracuse football defense, meanwhile, allows 245.4 passing yards and 228.1 rushing yards per meeting, according to ESPN statistics. At least Boston College isn’t prolific in its running attack, managing 94.6 yards per match-up.

The Orange and the Eagles are former Big East Conference rivals and current ACC foes, with Syracuse football leading the all-time series, 32-21, including a 20-8 edge at the Carrier Dome. However, when Boston College traveled to Central New York in the 2019 stanza, the Eagles crushed the Orange, 58-27.

Cuse.com says that Boston College is the fifth most-frequent opponent for Syracuse football ever and second among ACC squads, trailing Pittsburgh.
