Syracuse Football: Wake Forest dominates virtually every category in rout
By Neil Adler
Syracuse football looked absolutely woeful in a blow-out home loss to Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon.
Syracuse football had to prevail in the turnover department and convert takeaways into touchdowns to defeat Wake Forest in an Atlantic Coast Conference clash on Saturday afternoon inside the Carrier Dome.
Unfortunately, that didn’t occur. The Orange got beat in almost every single statistical facet in a 38-14 demolition at the hands of the Demon Deacons on the Hill, with no fans in the stands due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The ‘Cuse (1-6), frankly, is not a good football team in the 2020 campaign. In all fairness, though, Syracuse football has really gotten stung by injuries across its roster, with star defensive back Trill Williams and starting running back Sean Tucker not dressing versus Wake Forest, per this report ahead of Saturday’s affair.
Additionally, the Demon Deacons are solid. They bested then-No. 19 Virginia Tech a week ago and then followed up that performance by totally dispatching of the Orange.
Other than a few results on special teams, and a fourth-down conversion by the ‘Cuse, Syracuse football fared worse than Wake Forest (4-2) pretty much across the board, per statistics provided by ESPN.com.
Syracuse football is in a precarious position after losing yet again, this time around to Wake Forest.
By falling to the Demon Deacons, the Orange has now dropped four straight, with three of those games coming in Central New York. Up next for the ‘Cuse is a home encounter this Saturday at 2 pm versus Boston College.
The Eagles, we should point out, had No. 1 Clemson on the ropes this past Saturday afternoon, but the Tigers pulled out a victory, 34-28. Clemson was without star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who recently tested positive for Covid-19.
Against Wake Forest, Syracuse football got destroyed in passing and rushing yards. The Orange lost 3-0 in the turnover arena and proved terrible on third-down efficiency.
Last but not least, the ‘Cuse committed multiple untimely penalties and, like in many prior games during the fall term, the Orange’s opponent won time of possession.
Following this meeting, Syracuse football is 6-4 all-time versus the Demon Deacons, including a 4-2 mark on the Hill. There are two minor bright spots, however.
Orange running back Cooper Lutz, filling in for Tucker, accumulated 106 all-purpose yards in his first career start, according to cuse.com.
And quarterback JaCobian Morgan, a true freshman, engineered an 80-yard drive deep in the fourth quarter. Morgan, who replaced starting QB Rex Culpepper, connected on all seven of his pass attempts for 57 yards, capped off by a short touchdown throw to tight end Luke Benson, per cuse.com.
