Mustapha Amzil recently arrived in the United States, the high-major offers are pouring in, and hopefully Syracuse basketball will get into the fray.

Syracuse basketball has one commitment in its 2021 class, and several big-time targets could head elsewhere, so the Orange may want to take a look and then offer Mustapha Amzil, who is getting all kinds of buzz on the recruiting trail.

The 6-10 forward, who recently moved to the United States from his native Finland, is attending the First Love Christian Academy in Washington, Pa.

He isn’t currently rated by the primary recruiting services, however, that could change as his recruitment heats up on a national stage.

As this juncture, according to the main recruiting Web sites and various media reports, Amzil holds scholarship offers from Maryland, Dayton, St. John’s, Oklahoma State and fellow Atlantic Coast Conference members Pittsburgh and Boston College.

In an interview that Amzil recently did with Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com, the intriguing high-school prospect says that blue bloods Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina are showing interest, along with Florida.

Other teams that Amzil says he’s talking with include Georgetown, East Carolina, Georgia State, Bradley, South Florida, Western Kentucky and Eastern Washington.

Amzil told Weingarten that, following his move to the United States, “It’s been great since I came down here. My exposure has been blowing up and I’m thankful for all of the offers I’ve received.”

With 13 scholarship guys on its current roster, two seniors and one 2021 commit in five-star small forward Benny Williams, Syracuse basketball won’t necessarily have a ton of openings after the 2020-21 stanza concludes.

However, the Orange’s top-two 2021 targets, four-star center Micawber Etienne and four-star power forward Arthur Kaluma, could opt for teams other than the ‘Cuse. So the Orange inquiring about Amzil and making an offer would seem logical.

"Amzil said this about his versatility in the Weingarten article. “I can play multiple positions and score on all levels. I like to get my teammates involved and I think my court-vision is good and I have a high-IQ. Rebounding is also one of my strengths. I need to improve on staying solid on the defensive end so I’m able to guard all positions and I’m constantly improving. I also need to keep my shot consistent.”"
