Syracuse football star safety, Andre Cisco, is out for the remainder of the season from an injury in week three. His draft stock is now up in the air.
Syracuse football fans may have seen the last of Andre Cisco in an Orange uniform.
The star safety went down with an injury during warm-ups before the Orange’s week three game against Georgia Tech. He missed the Duke game after SU had a bye week. Head coach Dino Babers confirmed Cisco’s season-ending injury in his weekly news conference.
The season-ending injury is more than just an insurmountable loss for Syracuse football. Cisco is a national presence, an All-American, and has the potential to really make it big time at the next level. His injury didn’t seem this serious at first, but with a lot of money on the line, it’s important for Cisco to get as healthy as possible.
Cisco’s accolades in two seasons and a few games are as good as some great players have in four years. Cisco leads all current FBS players with 13 interceptions and has 136 tackles and a defensive touchdown to show for. Through two games this season, this primetime player already had a pick and 11 tackles.
Cisco has gotten mixed reviews at the NFL level, which is why this injury is a bit concerning. He’s been as high as projected 23rd in one mock draft. He’s also been ranked nearly outside the top-100 best prospects by Todd McShay.
An injury sustained during pre-game warm-ups obviously doesn’t look good, but if Cisco can recover fully in time for draft workouts, it would be the best-case scenario, rather than try to fight through a nagging injury.
There’s also still the chance that he comes back for his senior season. Cisco has never formally said what his plans are, but a move to the NFL just seems too good to pass up given his talents.
April is still very much out of the picture, but for now, it’ll be a key time of rehabbing for Cisco.
