Syracuse Football takes on Duke Saturday afternoon. Here’s the info you need to watch and listen to the game.
Syracuse Football finally woke up last week and got in the win column for a rout of Georgia Tech, 37-20. They looked dominant on defense with multiple interceptions, despite the loss of Andre Cisco. The Orange offense also looked better with decent performances from freshman running back Sean Tucker and veteran quarterback Tommy Devito behind an improved offensive line. Up next is Duke, who has also struggled to start this season.
The Blue Devils are 0-4, according to ESPN.com, and have looked awful thus far. Syracuse on the other hand is starting to find out who they are. Their defense has continued to be among the best in the ACC and nation, especially in takeaways. The Blue Devils aren’t far behind in takeaways either, which is the only real reason they have hung around in most of their games this season.
Since the two teams aren’t necessarily the greatest on offense though, don’t expect a ton of points in this one as both offenses may stall time and time again. The lack of scoring may also make us miss the loud fans and sounds of the Loud House since there will still be no fans in attendance once again due to state policy, but at least we’ll once again get to watch our beloved Orange, something that was uncertain coming into the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In regards to the game though, let’s look at the stats for both teams thus far for further clarity:
How do these teams match up?
Total yards per game: Syracuse 243.3 yards, Duke 359.3 yards
Points per game: Syracuse 17.7, Duke 17.5
Points Allowed per game: Syracuse 24.0, Duke 32.3
Yards Allowed per game: Syracuse 419.3 yards, Duke 440.5 yards
*all stats above via ESPN.com
The good news once again this week, like last week versus Georgia Tech, is that the Orange defense has allowed fewer points per game than Duke. Syracuse this week also allows less yards per game, and barely scores more points per game as well. The only thing they trail in is total yards per game, but as we know, the Syracuse offense is still a work in progress due to the bad offensive line, and that can only improve.
The current margin for this game according to ESPN is about 1.0 points favoring Duke, which means they see this game could swing either way. The fact that ESPN also gives Syracuse a 56.7% chance of winning compared to Duke’s 43.3% is a reflection of their lack of confidence in Duke who has yet to win this season.
