Syracuse basketball has recently contacted Lawrent Rice, an excellent combo guard in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Lawrent Rice is a player to watch in the 2023 class, according to recruiting analysts, and Syracuse basketball has reportedly reached out to the 6-foot-3 combo guard.

Rice, a sophomore out of Wayne High School in Huber Heights, Ohio, near Dayton, currently holds offers from Big Ten Conference member Purdue, Central Michigan and Ohio, according to a review of various recruiting Web sites.

Additionally, his bio on the 247Sports Web site says that he has interest from Cincinnati, Dayton, Indiana, Louisville, Ohio State and Xavier.

In mid-August, Rice held a virtual meeting with coaches at fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad Louisville, including head coach Chris Mack, according to this tweet.

A separate tweet notes that an abundance of high-major schools has recently reached out to Rice, including Syracuse basketball, Ohio State, Michigan State, Virginia, Georgetown, UCLA, Baylor, Notre Dame, West Virginia and Miami. Wow.

Syracuse basketball has made contact with Lawrent Rice, a stellar guard in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Currently, Rice isn’t ranked nationally by some of the primary recruiting services, although I expect that to change as his recruitment heats up. Prep Hoops, though, does arrange him at No. 61 overall within the 2023 class.

A recent story on ohiostate.rivals.com quoted Rice as saying, “The schools that I have the strongest relationships with are Louisville, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Michigan State, North Carolina State, Dayton, Virginia and Purdue.”

So obviously Rice is getting a lot of attention from a bevy of high-quality crews around the country, including several from the ACC. The Orange, as of yet, doesn’t appear to have offered him a scholarship, but if the ‘Cuse plans to seriously pursue Rice, Syracuse basketball would prove well-served to offer him soon.

"“I want to go somewhere where I will be in a position to be successful,” Rice told 247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Snow in a recent article. “Just being the person I am, a lot of schools like how I am a leader. I just want to go somewhere that I can be successful as a person and as a player.”"

We’ll keep an eye on Rice, who can suit up at either point guard or shooting guard, to see if his relationship with Syracuse basketball continues onward.
