Syracuse football players Sean Tucker and Trill Williams delivered in their win over Georgia Tech. The ACC followed suit by naming them to weekly awards.

Week three was kind to Syracuse football, as they picked up win one on the 2020 season. The ACC noticed the Orange win because two ‘Cuse players were named as the top at their position. Sean Tucker was voted running back of the week while Trill Williams got named the top defensive back.

The freshman Tucker took over the lead role as top dawg in the running back room, rushing for 112 yards on 24 carries. He also became the first SU freshman to hit over 100 yards on the ground since 2015 when Jordan Fredericks did it against Rhode Island.

As for Williams, he picked up the slack after Andre Cisco was ruled out of the game after a collision during warm-ups. Williams picked off one pass and scored on another one after a lateral. He also had five tackles and broke up two passes in the Syracuse football victory.

For Syracuse, this is more than the accolades. Williams has solidified himself as arguably the top number two defensive back in the ACC. Meanwhile, Tucker may have just given the Orange a reliable option at running back, a position they struggled with through the first two weeks.

SU has a week off before a very winnable game against Duke on October 10. That’ll give Cisco and other players some time to rest up before suiting up again. If Syracuse can win that game, they’ll be 2-2 and in a good position to turn around the season before it gets too late.

For now, it’s up to Tucker and Williams to start an upward trend of elevating Syracuse football as the season progresses. An 0-2 start was tough, but a win and accolades might be enough to change the momentum.
