Syracuse Football: Game time, TV, Radio and more vs Pittsburgh
By Josh Peelman
Syracuse Football takes on Pittsburgh in Week 2, Saturday afternoon on the road. Here’s all the info needed to watch and listen to the game.
Syracuse Football had a rough go of it last week on the road versus the No. 18 Tar Heels of North Carolina in both teams’ ACC opener. The Orange at least on defense looked really good through three quarters keeping the score at 10-6 with two picks and a fumble recovery off a muffed punt. However, the Orange offense could get nothing going which led to multiple three and outs which put the defense back out on the field more than it should have been.
By the time the fourth quarter came around, all North Carolina had to do was ram the ball down our throats to win the game emphatically 31-6, according to Cuse.com. Next up, the Orange get another Top 25 team in Pittsburgh on the road this Saturday.
Syracuse should be scared of Pittsburgh after what happened last week. Pittsburgh was so good last Saturday in the first half against Austin Peay that both teams agreed to play only 10-minute quarters in the second half. Obviously one of the reasons for shortening a game is so the game isn’t even more uneven than it already is. The other, at least this year, is to provide less exposure between players/teams unnecessarily due to the coronavirus pandemic. The result was only 13 points scored in the second half by Pittsburgh compared to an amazing 42 points in the first half, on the way to a 55-0 romp, according to ESPN.com
In other words, Pittsburgh looks to be in mid-season form and is ready for a battle. Sure Austin Peay did not necessarily make them battle-tested like Syracuse will be due to having North Carolina last week. However, when you put up 55 points and look good doing it from a fundamental aspect both rushing and throwing the ball, you know you got something good going. Let’s look at the stats from last week for further clarity:
How do these teams match up?
Total yards per game: Syracuse 202 yards, Pittsburgh 456 yards
Points per game: Syracuse 6, Pittsburgh 55
Points Allowed per game: Syracuse 31, Pittsburgh 0
Yards Allowed per game: Syracuse 463 yards, Pittsburgh 137 yards
*all stats above via ESPN.com
The good news for Syracuse based on these numbers is…… well, let’s start with the bad news first. The Orange don’t win any of these categories and it’s not even close. In fact. In terms of Syracuse, the numbers are near identical (except points per game was higher which is understandable after one game) to the averages Syracuse finished with last year which is a scary thought. That has got to improve if Syracuse wants to win any games this season.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh literally was almost twice as good in every category as Syracuse last week. Sure it was Austin Peay and not No. 18 North Carolina, but still you have to give credit where credit is due. If Syracuse wants any chance to beat Pittsburgh Saturday, all these numbers need to (at least) meet somewhere in the middle.
The last time these two played was a close affair in the Carrier Dome with Pitt holding on after an SU rally 27-20. A failed stop against Pitt’s run game sealed the late-game rally by Syracuse. Syracuse can only hope for a similar result this week against their long-time rival.
The current margin for this game according to ESPN is about 21.5 points favoring Pittsburgh, which is not good for Syracuse for the second-straight game to open the year. ESPN also gives Syracuse just a 14.4% chance of winning compared to Pittsburgh’s 85.6%. Yikes….
