Rivals.com takes a look at whether it hit or missed on a variety of ACC quarterbacks’ ratings, including Syracuse football QB Tommy DeVito.

Rivals.com recruiting director Mike Farrell has posted a cool piece examining the highest-ranked quarterback signee at each Atlantic Coast Conference program in the history of the Rivals recruiting service, and Syracuse football QB Tommy DeVito is featured.

Farrell explores whether Rivals.com hit or missed on the ratings of these prospects, and he says that the recruiting service “hit” with DeVito, who is currently a redshirt junior quarterback for the ‘Cuse.

A three-star prospect in the 2017 recruiting cycle who attended the Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, N.J., Rivals.com slotted him as the No. 14 pro-style quarterback across the country in his class, as well as the No. 11 player in the state of New Jersey.

"Here’s what Farrell had in his write-up on the Orange quarterback. “DeVito is the starter for Syracuse and had a solid season last year with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s off to a rough start this year but as a high three-star, he’s been as expected so far.”"

In determining that Rivals.com “hit” on its high-school rankings of DeVito, Farrell said, “The jury is still out but as a starter and with a good season last year he can’t be anything but a hit.”

Both 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite had DeVito as a four-star prospect. The 247Sports Composite arranged him at No. 327 overall in the 2017 class, as well as the No. 13 pro-style quarterback and the No. 7 player in New Jersey.

The 247Sports recruiting service put DeVito even higher in the 2017 recruiting cycle, with him as the No. 8 pro-style quarterback nationally and the No. 8 prospect in New Jersey.

As we detailed earlier this week, DeVito definitely has to step up his game after an unimpressive performance in the 2020 stanza opener last Saturday afternoon, when Syracuse football got crushed by then-No. 18 North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

His skills and talents are evident, even if some ‘Cuse fans disagree, but DeVito needs to jump-start his confidence and feel more at ease in the pocket.
