Dior Johnson unsure of reclassify, things ‘great’ with Syracuse basketball

Syracuse basketball 2022 commit Dior Johnson has positive sentiments to share about the ‘Cuse staff.
Dior Johnson, a Syracuse basketball commit and the No. 3 player nationally in the 2022 class according to 247Sports, says regarding the possibility of him reclassifying into the 2021 recruiting cycle, “I’m not sure on that at this time.”
That’s according to a blog post which he published on Sept. 1 via Sports Illustrated’s Web site. Johnson is a 6-foot-3 point guard and the highest-rated recruit for the Orange dating back to ‘Cuse legend Carmelo Anthony.
Johnson, who pledged to Syracuse basketball this past February, says of the potential 2021 reclassify, “I know everyone is talking about me potentially reclassifying and things like that, but I’m not sure on that at this time. I think people will just have to find that out on the fly.”
From my point of view, it’s a win-win whether Johnson shifts classes or not. If he stays in 2022, then the Orange could end up with an unbelievably stellar recruiting cycle. Should Johnson move to 2021, he would join four-star small forward Benny Williams in that class.
On the topic of his relationship with the ‘Cuse, Johnson writes, “Everything is great with me and the staff at Syracuse; unfortunately, I can’t get down there to visit with everything going on, but things are good.”
Johnson, a five-star rising junior, elected to transfer from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, Calif., to the powerhouse prep-school program at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., for the remainder of his high-school career.
Also on the Oak Hill Academy roster, by the way, is Zion Cruz, a 2022 five-star shooting guard and high-priority target for Syracuse basketball in this recruiting cycle.
Syracuse basketball 2022 commit and five-star point guard Dior Johnson speaks about his high-school colleagues.
Johnson says of his Oak Hill Academy squad, “I love our team. I think we can be really good, first of all because we have great communication. We all have a chemistry that hits a little different. We have really good guards and a 7-foot-2 big who’s really active.”
Universally deemed a top-15 player across the country by all of the primary recruiting services in the 2022 class, Johnson says he worked out and played “with NBA guys all summer.”
"“I played a lot of pickup with Paul George, Reggie Jackson, Kawhi Leonard and those guys; no one knew because there weren’t any cameras or anything. Playing with those guys taught me a lot about how to slow the game down and just learn how to play ‘basketball’ instead of just playing like a high school guard.”"
It’s an understatement to note that the Syracuse basketball fan base absolutely cannot wait to see Johnson don an Orange uniform in the future.
