Syracuse Football: National analyst predicts ‘Cuse for WR Umari Hatcher
By Neil Adler
Syracuse football has found a groove with its 2021 class, and the next commitment could come from three-star wide receiver Umari Hatcher.
With 18 commitments to date in its 2021 recruiting cycle, Syracuse football is probably heading toward the finish line with this class, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if a pledge potentially arrives in the near future from three-star wide receiver Umari Hatcher.
Brian Dohn, a national analyst with 247Sports who has a stellar success rate in his Crystal Ball projections for that recruiting service, logged a prediction on Wednesday with a high confidence level of eight for the Orange as it pertains to the 6-foot-3, 175-pound Hatcher.
Also on Wednesday, Hatcher tweeted out, “Commitment coming soon!!!” He also appears to have listed six schools with this tweet, and they are Syracuse football, Indiana, Michigan State, Maryland, East Carolina and Liberty, a crew that the ‘Cuse is slated to host from the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Oct. 17.
It’s not entirely clear if these are Hatcher’s only half-dozen suitors still in the running, however, it does seem that the Orange is in a good position with the talented wide receiver, a rising senior at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Va.
For some context about Dohn, in the 2021 recruiting cycle, he is 96.9 percent accurate, and all-time he is 91.15 percent accurate. Nothing is ever a guarantee in the fickle recruiting world, but this is an encouraging sign for Syracuse football in possibly landing Hatcher, who is slotted as three stars by both 247Sports and Rivals.com.
A national analyst is forecasting that 2021 three-star wide receiver Umari Hatcher will select Syracuse football.
Per a review of those two recruiting Web sites, Hatcher has obtained scholarship offers from a total of 13 teams, and they are the Orange, along with East Carolina, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Penn State, Temple, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Liberty and Massachusetts.
Should Hatcher ultimately pick Syracuse football, it would prove huge for several reasons. For one, the ‘Cuse has faced competition from a handful of other Atlantic Coast Conference groups. Secondly, Hatcher has gotten offers from a couple of squads in the rugged Big Ten Conference, most notably Penn State.
Nationally in the 2021 class, the 247Sports Composite puts Hatcher at No. 988 overall, No. 145 at wide receiver and No. 27 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is the No. 104 wide receiver and the No. 19 prospect in Virginia, per 247Sports.
In its 2021 recruiting cycle, Syracuse football currently has one wide receiver in three-star Kendall Long, who committed to the Orange back in May. Hatcher could soon join Long, further bolstering this class for the ‘Cuse.
