Get your Syracuse Orange fix of some recent classic contests across various sports when the ‘Cuse takes over the ACC Network on Aug. 7.
The Syracuse Orange, whether it’s basketball, football or numerous other sports, has engaged in a bunch of tremendous battles in recent memory.
A handful of these epic encounters will get aired when Syracuse takes over the ACC Network on Friday, Aug. 7. This schedule of ‘Cuse clashes features a half-dozen affairs from 2009 through 2019.
Per a statement from the university’s athletics department, the “Syracuse takeover is part of a 15-day programming effort by the ACC Network to highlight some of the best games and greatest moments for each ACC institution.”
Another nugget from the cuse.com announcement to note: “In addition, a new series produced entirely by ACC schools, Authentic ACC will debut.”
Now, since the Orange didn’t join the Atlantic Coast Conference until the 2013-14 campaign, not every one of its games within the takeover has Syracuse squaring off with a foe that is actually in the ACC at present.
For example, airing from 8 pm until midnight on Aug. 7 is the Big East Conference Tournament tilt between Syracuse basketball and Connecticut from March of 2009 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
You may recall that this bout took six overtimes to complete, with the Orange prevailing, 127-117. Perhaps one of the best college basketball meetings to transpire in the history of the sport.
From 4 pm to 6:30 pm, you can check out the ‘Cuse squeaking by Kansas State, 36-34, in the inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. This game occurred on Dec. 30, 2010, with Delone Carter running for a career-high 198 yards and two touchdowns, picking up MVP honors.
The Syracuse basketball women’s team made a magical run to the NCAA Tournament championship contest in 2016, where it fell to UConn. But before the Big Dance, the Orange scored an upset of No. 7 Louisville in the semi-finals of the ACC Tournament, and that result will air from 2 pm to 4 pm.
The Huskies are in the Big East, but they’re getting a lot of love in the ‘Cuse takeover. The Syracuse basketball men’s squad triumphed at Connecticut, 71-69, on Feb. 25, 2012. The Orange would march on to a 30-1 regular season and advance to the Elite Eight in March Madness. This UConn duel will run from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.
The remaining two participants in the takeover are Syracuse women’s soccer beating Empire State crew Colgate in August of 2019, which will air from 10 am to 12 pm, and the third-seeded Syracuse men’s lacrosse program holding off fourth-seeded Duke, 15-14, to claim the 2015 ACC title. The championship outcome for the Orange, held on April 26, goes from 12 pm to 2 pm.
