Syracuse basketball has recruited a bunch out of Brewster Academy, which bodes well as far as four-star targets Micawber Etienne and Yann Farrell.
Over the last decade or so, Syracuse basketball has picked up a handful of strong commitments from guys who suited up for the powerhouse program at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H.
Now two intriguing Orange targets, one each in the 2021 and 2022 class, have elected to transfer to Brewster Academy. This doesn’t by any means guarantee that either Micawber Etienne or Yann Farrell will ultimately select the ‘Cuse, it should get pointed out.
However, the fact that both of these four-star prospects will play at Brewster Academy is a positive development for Syracuse, given the history between the two squads.
Etienne, a 6-foot-10 center in the 2021 class, is transferring from the Suffield Academy in Suffield, Conn. He is a high-priority target for the Orange in the 2021 recruiting cycle. In late May, top-60 player Etienne reportedly held a virtual meeting with ‘Cuse head coach Jim Boeheim and his assistants.
Also in late May, Syracuse offered a scholarship to Yann Farrell, a 6-foot-7 small forward in the 2022 class. Farrell, a top-100 prospect in his recruiting cycle, is moving to Brewster Academy from West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Md.
On the AAU circuit, Etienne and Farrell compete for the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals. That AAU group, via its Twitter page, tweeted out the news regarding Etienne and Farrell transferring to Brewster Academy.
Each of these talented high-school players has many offers from other high-major programs, so the Orange faces an uphill battle to land either, or perhaps both, of them.
But the connections between the ‘Cuse and Brewster Academy are undeniably beneficial to Syracuse. Four-star combo guard Kadary Richmond, a member of the Orange’s 2020 recruiting class, went to Brewster Academy.
The same goes for ‘Cuse rising junior guard Buddy Boeheim, as well as past Syracuse guys like C.J. Fair, who was an All-American on the Hill, former first-round NBA draft pick Chris McCullough, and Taurean Thompson, who transferred from the Orange to Seton Hall and then, earlier this week, to Detroit.
