Syracuse football picked up a massive recruiting win with 2021 three-star quarterback Justin Lamson committing to the Orange.
In the days leading up to his announcement decision, more than a dozen analysts projected that 2021 three-star quarterback Justin Lamson would choose Syracuse football. And the analysts got this one right.
Lamson, a top-20 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 recruiting cycle, revealed on Friday that the Orange is his collegiate destination. He chose the ‘Cuse over other finalists including fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Louisville, Boise State, San Jose State and Wyoming.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Lamson, a rising senior at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, Calif., earned 2019 All-Metro Player of the Year honors from The Sacramento Bee. According to that newspaper, in his last stanza Lamson passed for 3,114 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also ran for 462 yards and five TDs.
With this pledge by Lamson, Syracuse has 14 players in its 2021 class and its first quarterback. Lamson’s commitment comes about 24 hours after three-star defensive end Jatius Geer opted to join the Orange. At present, 247Sports slots the ‘Cuse 2021 class at No. 47 nationally, with Rivals.com putting Syracuse at No. 48.

Overall across the country in this recruiting cycle, Lamson is No. 957 according to the 247Sports Composite, which makes him one of the highest-rated prospects to date in the Orange’s 2021 class.
Per 247Sports, Lamson is the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 recruiting cycle, as well as the No. 51 player in the state of California.
Syracuse football, with Justin Lamson committing, has its inaugural quarterback in the Orange’s 2021 recruiting cycle.
I get that some ‘Cuse fanatics are hoping that their beloved squad will bring in four- and five-star prospects, but, make no mistake, Lamson selecting Syracuse is a big deal.
Perhaps most importantly, now that Orange coaches have a talented quarterback in their 2021 class, they can focus their recruiting efforts on other positions.
What’s more, boasting a top-20 quarterback can only help as the ‘Cuse attempts to land other high-quality players, particularly on offense, in both the skill positions, as well as on the offensive line.
When Lamson comes on board to Syracuse in a year’s time, starting quarterback Tommy DeVito will assumedly have entered his redshirt-senior campaign. The Orange does have other QBs on its depth chart, although Lamson will absolutely contend for reps at some point.
"Brandon Huffman, a national recruiting editor for 247Sports, had this to say about Lamson in an evaluation. “Versatile athlete, was an all-state safety early in career before taking over the reins at quarterback. Strong build, fluid athlete and can run, with good pocket awareness and knowing when to tuck and run or stand tall in the pocket. Can throw on the run. Good job going through progressions and can make all the throws, short, intermediate and deep. As he gets more starting reps should really flourish.”"
Welcome to the ‘Cuse family, Justin.
