Jatius Geer from South Carolina has committed to Syracuse football. The defensive end adds more depth to a strong recruiting class on defense.
On Thursday, the Syracuse football team landed a commitment from Jatius Geer, a defensive lineman from the state of South Carolina. At 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, Geer is listed as the 63rd ranked strong-side defensive end for the 2021 class.
Along with being a top 100 recruit at his position, Geer was listed 1,087 nationally, and 15th in South Carolina at the time of his commitment with a 247sports composite score of .8466, which is firm as a three-star recruit.
Geer is hoping to suit up this fall for Belton-Honea Path High School for his senior year. Before committing to Syracuse, Geer received offers from Akron and Alabama A&M, plus according to Syracuse.com, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, UCF and others also had a strong interest.
Geer’s commitment helps grow an already strong class for the defensive side of the ball. Geer will be the second defensive end, fourth defensive lineman, and the fourth-highest rated recruit according to 247sports.com for Syracuse so far for the class of 2021. 247sports has Syracuse’s top six rated recruits currently all on the defensive side of the ball.
A year ago Syracuse lost the top defensive ends when Kendall Coleman and Alton Robinson went to the NFL. This upcoming season looks to be the final ones for defensive tackles Josh Black, Kingsley Jonathan, and McKinley Williams, making the emphasis on defensive linemen so important.
The 2021 class will join young defensive linemen such as Cooper Dawson and Latarie Kinsler, who will be looking to fill these massive shoes sooner rather than later for Coach Dino Babers’ squad.
This could be just the start for the Orange when it comes to recruiting news this holiday weekend, with Quarterback Justin Lamson expected to make his announcement on Friday.
