Syracuse football target Justin Lamson, a top-20 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 class, is aiming to announce on July 3.

Syracuse football could find itself in store for a nice July 4th holiday weekend if some recent projections about 2021 three-star quarterback Justin Lamson hold up.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Lamson, a rising senior at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, Calif., is slated to reveal his collegiate destination on July 3, according to a report by Jody Demling, the publisher of Cardinal Authority.

Demling’s article notes that Lamson is apparently down to a trio of finalists in Louisville, the ‘Cuse, and Boise State. We recently penned a column in which Lamson had unveiled a top four of the Cardinals, the Orange, San Jose State and Wyoming, although Boise State had entered the fray after doling out a late scholarship offer to the talented 2021 prospect.

Over the last few days, Syracuse has received two projections for Lamson from a pair of recruiting analysts on the 247Sports Web site. Five publishers on Rivals.com also have logged predictions for Lamson in the Orange’s direction.

We always have to take these prognostications with a grain of salt, because the recruiting world is fickle, and nothing is ever a guarantee until a high-school player makes his final decision.

But it’s an encouraging sign that both 247Sports director of football recruiting Steve Wiltfong and 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins are forecasting the ‘Cuse for Lamson, even if Biggins’ confidence level in his selection is low.

Wiltfong and Biggins each have a 2021 accuracy in their crystal-ball picks of 99 percent or higher, according to the 247Sports Web site. You can’t do much better than that.

Justin Lamson would give Syracuse football its first quarterback commit in the Orange’s 2021 class.

Lamson is rated three stars by Rivals.com and 247Sports, with this latter recruiting service placing him as the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 recruiting cycle, as well as the No. 51 prospect in the state of California.

Currently, Syracuse’s 2021 class doesn’t include a quarterback, and Lamson would amount to a terrific get for the Orange. The ‘Cuse has an excellent shot at winning this recruiting bout, and we’ll of course cover Lamson’s announcement decision later this week.
