Syracuse Football: Analysts project Orange for 2021 3-star QB and DE
By Neil Adler
Syracuse football has landed a few prognostications in its favor from recruiting experts as it pertains to a 2021 three-star QB and defensive end.
Syracuse football presently has a 2021 class with a dozen verbal commitments that, collectively, ranks in the top 60 across the country according to 247Sports and Rivals.com.
Those ratings could certainly improve if the Orange secures some additional 2021 pledges in the near future. To that end, several recruiting analysts have logged projections for the ‘Cuse regarding a three-star quarterback and a three-star defensive end in this cycle.
Steve Wiltfong, director of football recruiting for 247Sports, has put his Crystal Ball prediction for talented quarterback Justin Lamson in Syracuse’s direction.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Lamson, a rising senior at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, Calif., is placed by 247Sports as the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 class, and also the No. 51 prospect in the state of California.
Lamson recently unveiled a shortlist of finalists that features the Orange as well as fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Louisville. According to various media reports, Lamson could announce in the coming week or two.
The ‘Cuse doesn’t currently have a quarterback in its 2021 class, and my gut tells me that Lamson is ultimately going to pick Syracuse.
Syracuse football appears in excellent shape to potentially win the recruiting bout over a pair of 2021 three-star prospects.
Wiltfong and Rivals.com’s Russell Johnson are also forecasting the Orange for three-star defensive end Jatius Geer. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Geer is a rising senior at Belton-Honea Path High School in Honea Path, S.C.
Per 247Sports, he is slotted overall as the No. 56 strong-side defensive end within the 2021 recruiting cycle, as well as the No. 11 player in the state of South Carolina. The 247Sports Composite puts Geer as the No. 1,083 prospect in his class, regardless of position.
According to the main recruiting services, Geer holds more than a dozen scholarship offers, from programs such as the ACC’s Georgia Tech, UCF, Memphis, Kansas State, East Carolina and Temple.
While positive forecasts from analysts toward the ‘Cuse for both Geer and Lamson are encouraging, nothing is ever a guarantee with these sorts of predictions. But Syracuse hearing its name called for each of them would do wonders for the Orange’s 2021 class as a whole.
